Can be used to make Runewords:
Ladder-only ? 
I was only saved this fate by a good Samaritan. I had gotten my 2 mals and guls, 1 base, and was trading for another and he told me that Mosaic was ladder only and allowed me to refund the trade for the claw.

Ladder only runewords:

Happened to me when I was new and dying to get Enigma lol, that sucked
I also had the luck in having someone telling me it is ladder only.
Since then I always join games and inform others if I expect them to make Mosaic on non-ladder.

I remember people saying that when the old "ladder-only" runewords, become available to non-ladder, the "gemmed non-ladder items" with those "rune sequence" became runeword items
So your claw has a chance to become a Mosaic in the future if Mosaic becomes non-ladder
