Sorc lvl 87 build recommendations

Hey there,

short summary

I started off with a leveling guide for a Blizzard /

Meteor hybrid build, which seemed to have payed off pretty well. I then transitioned into

Frozen Orb /

Chain Lightning hybrid build but soon after i found my

Cold Rupture Sunder charm.

My thoughts and research

I'm now gathering essences (only need one from diablo) so i can respec.. but the question remains, what should i respec into?

I was looking around watching a couple of builds and guides. It seems that fire sorc is most famous for doing ubers but my

Cold Rupture doesn't really have added value here. Cold sorc seems like a debate between blizzard and orb, but i'm not sure if orb is the right choice. Mainly because it seemed i was no match at all for doing ubers. Someone helping me said it made sense i didn't stood any chance because i was an Orb sorc. Besides that, i think it seemed easier doing cow levels for instance with the blizzard/

Glacial Spike combo instead of what i have now.

Further more a couple of other builds (

Zeal,

Werebear) but i don't think i will focus on that any time soon.
I think for now i want to transition back into blizzard sorc having the

Cold Rupture.

My Gear and options

The gear i have now is:

The Oculus,

Harlequin Crest,

Skin of the Vipermagi, Spirit

Monarch,

Natalya's Soul,

Tal Rasha's Fine-Spur Cloth,

Magefist,

Mara's Kaleidoscope, Order Grip ring with 10FCR 26CR and

Nagelring 25MF. Weapon swap has

Blade Of Ali Baba and Rhyme

Bone Shield.
A couple of charms for the resistance,

Gheed's Fortune, a 16/17 Anni and an Amazon torch 15/10.
I currently have all resistances 75% except cold, which is at 68%.

I have some other gear options as well, like a couple of other rings with FCR,

Manald Heal,

Chance Guards,

Gloom's Trap,

Snowclash,

Frostburn,

Trang-Oul's Claws.

My A2 merc with Might has an Insight

Thresher with lvl14

Meditation,

Stealskull and

Goldskin.

Last but not least..

I'm still focussing on gathering better gear, mainly the ones i need for cold build and the runes i need for things like, HOTO or Doom, CTA, Infinity and Treachery.

I hope someone can guide me a bit or maybe have some usefull feedback. Please let me know if more information is needed.

Hello, i see the situation you are in right now, in your position I:
1. Respec, or stay in, full Blizzard Sorc. It’s too strong and versatile, you can stack a lot of MF and it plows lots of areas.

2. Farm the hell out of; Cows,

Travincal,

Ancient Tunnels,

Andariel (especially if TZ) and maybe The Pit. As you probably already know, you don’t really need a ton MF at Cows, you go there for bases, runes and charms, with around 100mf is already overkill.

3. Reconsider a cold Sorc for Ubers, never tried it before but sounds like a pain in the butt. Might as well go Smither and play it safe.

5. Keep slaying

What's your goal ?

Blizz sorc is just one of the best char you can make, you can farm efficiently almost everywhere even with low gear.
You'll do good with the gear you have, you'll just be a bit slow against cold immune since you don't have a lot of -cold resist apart from

Cold Mastery, but you have plenty areas to farm without lot of cold immunes. I think Blizz sorc can do ubers now with a cold sunder, but wouldn't be fast or easy (I didn't test it...).

Fire sorc is the best for Ubers I think (even without a fire sunder). But you'll have less area to farm efficiently (like CS wouldn't be a great spot), and you'll have to change some gear.

Were,

Zeal are more expansive builds.

I'm not sure about Light sorc. I mean it can do everything (including Ubers), but I think you'll need more gear to really use the potential (I think you'll do better with a starter blizz sorc than with a starter light sorc).
I don't know if you can do Ubers just with Crescent Moon and a Light Sunder...?

So maybe you should farm with a Blizz sorc, you have gear for that, and when you got richer you can change for a more expansive build. That's generally how it works.

Just know that you can do Ubers with a cheap smiter (really cheap ! ^^).

My goal for now is to just make a build that can farm as fast and/or efficient as possible. Of course i want to do ubers as well, mainly to get the right torch.
I was planning to play a pala afterwards and farm its gear or requirements with my sorc, so in that case i can make the smiter.

I've seen a blizz sorc doing solo ubers once but with better gear ofcourse. I think he also had a barbarian merc with dual wield, proccing a buff from chest armor first then swapping it for something else.
I don't find myself nearly geared nor skilled enough for such magic

And just for my clarity. With smiter you mean a pala with

Smite, right?

Cold sorc can be efficient with budget gear, and optimized then with more, but already works without top tier stuff.

Typical budget cold sorc gear :
- Full TalRasha Set
- Spirit

Monarch Shield
- Aldur's

Boots
-

Magefist
- Most expensive is probably the rings, with 2 SoJ (or 1 SoJ one FCR ring if you miss FCR - I don't think you should)
- You can optimize by adding cold facets

- Cold sunder
- Res charms to go back to standard 75 all
- Cheap Anni and Torch

Merc :
- Insight in

Eth elite polearm (

Cryptic Axe is typically nice and not TOO expensive)
- Treachery
- Andy's Visage with

Ral or

Vampire Gaze or any leeching decent

Helm

Then optimize where you want :
You :
- Death Fathom for

Wand
-

Shako or Nightwing for

Helm
Are the most obvious
- etc. (Arach / Chains of Honor / Mara's...)
- Skiller charms, better charms...

Merc :
- Fortitude in armor
- Nice stuff in your Andy Visage that compensates fire res + adds either IAS (expensive but better) or min/max damage (cheaper)
- Infinity is always great but less required for cold sorc due to how

Cold Mastery works.

I went Blizzard /

Energy Shield.

Memory rune word (quite cheap) to boost ES and uniques which boost your mana:

Frostburn, 2

Stone of Jordan,

Silkweave and

Arachnid Mesh.

Main weapon: Doom (to demolish cold res opponents) or HOTO
Armour: Chains of Honor
Helmet:

Harlequin Crest with cold facet
Shield: Spirit

Also don't forget to keep a

Cold Rupture in your backpack!

When you have 3K points of Mana you and your merc don't need Insight anymore. He needs something better! If you cannot afford overhyped Infinity please consider Obedience (again, quite cheap), it hits hard!

Armour for merc: Fortitude
Helmet: my choice is

Crown of Thieves or anything with life stolen per hit.

You will be good.

And how to get a

Ber rune for your Chains of Honor?

A

Ber rune costs circa 15

Ist on the market.

One

Ist rune costs 20

Ral.

Farm Countess on normal for low level runes (and cube them to

Ral), she also drops

Ral. I can get 20

Ral from her in about one hour,

Teleport to her quickly with at least 105FCR!

However sooner or later you will be fed up with farming so have a break and continue 2 days later

My 88lvl Blizzard Sorc work pretty well with standard, budget gear and cold sunder charm. Mostly i farm

Andariel, Coutness, Cows,

Mephisto and

Travincal with her. Rest of the zones (and ofcourse Ubers) do with my FoH/

Zeal/

Smite hybrid Paladin.

Silkweave. Still need to find the runes for HOTO as well. At least i have the

You don't need

Energy Shield at all imho

You'll do well with your actual gear, don't worry
Try to find some skillers

I have a self-wield

Nova,

Fireball and Blizzard sorceresses with BIS gear. FB is the most easy to play with Phoenix since there's no mana issue. And she kills with sunder.

I have a 89

Frozen Orb / Blizzard sorc with a cold sunder charm and i'm loving it. You can cast two frozen orbs between blizzards, blasting everything out of the way.

And

Cold Mastery, although only works with 1/5 efficiency on cold immunes, is really cheaper than some runewords to reduce enemy cold resist.

For the

Energy Shield build i do miss the SoJ's,

Arachnid Mesh,

Silkweave and the HOTO or Doom. Further more, still missing the

Ormus' Robe as well as the CTA

When you find a lightning sunder charm I highly recommend

Nova sorc, with a Crescent Moon she doesn’t need Infinity or griffons eye to still farm effectively, but once you have them… she’s one of, if not the best out there!

Fireball sorc is fun too

Nova Sorc in a farming video before. It seemed very efficient but mostly fast to work/play with.

By the way, I strongly recommend Cure and Insight on

Prayer merc. Heals you up incredibly fast and solves pot requirement.
