Description

Transforms a metallic item into a golem that gains the properties of the item.

The Iron Golem's strength lies in his Thorn Damage. This Golem is very powerful against Melee attackers.

Iron Golems can be constructed from non-magical items. You will receive the additional Damage listed on weapons or the Defense listed on Armor. Currently, you do not receive the damage benefit for using two-handed weapons.

Save powerful Rare and Magical Items you don't wish to sell, use or trade to create Iron Golems. Some magical item properties are not transferred to the Iron Golem, such as "Chance to find Magical Items" and "Mana Steal".

You can only create Iron Golem from metal items, and you cannot make them from Clubs, Wands, Crystal Swords, Gloves, Belts, Throwing Weapons, Staves, Bows, Crossbows, Quest Items, Jewelry, Leather Armors and Leather Boots.

Iron Golem can gain the abilities of Socketed Gem weapons.

When you create an Iron Golem out of an Ethereal Item the Iron Golem is translucent.

Iron Golem remains over saved games.

Lore

While many mages spend their lives devoted to studying the transmutation of base metals into gold, the Necromancers have always had a somewhat different approach to transforming metals.

Through complicated arcane rituals and great mental concentration, a Necromancer can summon forth a Golem from common base metals.

The construct takes on the properties of the original source material, including any magical effects or other properties the original metal might have possessed.

Prevent Monster Heal cannot be inflicted by a Mercenary or Iron Golem, only the player.

Iron Golem is normally immune to poison with 100% poison resist, and 50% lightning resist. But making Iron Golem from an item with 50% lightning resist and 50% all resistances from level 6 Summon Resist would increase these to 150% Poison and Lightning Resist, making it Immune to lightning also.

If you skill reset with an Iron Golem active it disappear. Counter this issue by equipping an item with Iron Golem charges. Like Metalgrid or Oath.

Iron Golem made from Delirium can morph into Bone Fetish much like the character, and the effects are exactly the same.

Iron Golems can have auras when created from items such as Infinity, Dream, Insight, Beast, etc which can be a tremendous boost to your army!

Just be aware that for whatever reasons the golem can despawn (as in not-dead-just-vanished).

Because of that only use what you can afford loosing.

In SP if your golem bug-despawn you can use Hero Editor to "make justice" for yourself and recreate the base item back.

Also note that Iron Golems only persist between games when cast by the Necromancer's skill. (i.e. not by an item's charge)

Mod Edit: That was changed with Patch 2.5

Just lost my Beast IG. Diablo just one-shotted him with Firestorm despite the 20 points in Golem Mastery (41 total). Gonna make another one.

Iron Golems received some changes with Patch 2.5:
Blizzard wrote:
Fixed an issue where Iron Golems could lose the aura granted by the item they were created with when the Golem was frozen.
Fixed an issue where Iron Golems created in a previous game would disappear instead of teleporting to you.
Fixed an issue where Iron Golems summoned through a charge of the skill (Ex: granted by Metalgrid) would disappear when performing an inventory update.
Fixed an issue where Iron Golems created by a charged skill would not save between games.
