Archon Staff is one of only three staves compatible with the Obsession runeword. As an elite Staff, it deals respectable damage with very low attribute requirements, and for that reason it is sometimes used as a Breath of the Dying base by
Whirlwind Barbarians and
Fury: Skill Druids.

While most probably only think about Obsession, a 6 socket ethereal
Archon Staff is also a pretty good base for Breath of the Dying for a fury druid.

Unlike their Exceptional cousins, Elite Staves do not lag behind other weapon classes in terms of damage. The average damage of an
Archon Staff is on par with an
Ogre Maul, but with a Strength requirement 191 points lower. After skills like
Lycanthropy,
Oak Sage, and/or
Battle Orders are taken into account, these attribute points - if diverted to Vitality - can easily result in the wielder enjoying in excess of 500 additional Life.
