I get its not supposed to be a "they Rain from the sky" kind of mechanic... But I have gone 2h now almost without seeing a single one. Even when they are actually spawning its at best one every 20-30min...
Is a single Herald worth nearly 10 Baal runs in oppurtunity? Hell nah.
These things need a rework.

Can be used to make Runewords:

I've killed about 30 I'd say over the last 2-3 weeks?
Very difficult to have them spawn at times.
Also not a single one has ever dropped one of those new latent charms.
In fact not a single one has ever dropped anything of value for me.
I'm better of doing Baal runs & 3x3 Keyset runs and when I've amassed enough keys do Uber Tristram

I am at approx. #450.
Found one sunder as of yet.
Worst FOMO mechanic ever, very unhealthy. I guess my PC is running twice as long as usual.

It's tedious and not fun at all. Found one so far, lost count how many heralds got swatted in the process. Not for me.
Even a bot would get fed up!

130 and counting (32 of T1 ----- / -----19 of T2 ----- / -----12 of T3 ----- / ----- 11 of T4 ----- / ----- 56 of T5 Heralds). The longest chain of T5 was 15 in a game when I cleared Act I, Act II and most of the rest of the game through rotating Terror zones, I think over 80% of the entire game.
No Sunder Charm yet, but Keep trying.
I play offline, P8, so it's even more annoying. I don't have much magic find, 130 - 180.

Two times I left the PC on over night not to lose the game where I had 5-6 of T5 and continued the game next day to kill another few T5s, but with no luck.

Seeing posts like this discourages me even more to attempt finding Heralds or Latent CharmsDasNarf wrote: 22 hours agoI am at approx. #450.

Unhealthy is really a good way to describe this new content. My experience was to use shard on Act1, then Act 2, then I was so far in, why not Act 4, then Act 5. When I was done with it I had spent hours in the game, did find about 4-5 T5 Heralds.
And when I was done, it burned me out of the game. I could not continue. Best I could describe the experience was grinding & depressing. A mechanic designed to force players into a continuous game for hours. Don't leave, or you need start all over.
Whoever was behind the design of this, should never be allowed to work on game design ever again. This just reeked of D4 marketing mechanics B.S.

So far I've had 1-2 heralds every tombs run with a a2 tz shard
I can't guarantee this, but say you draw ire of Herald in cata 2, it seems that the heralds pop on entering lvl 3 cata or lvl 1 cata, the new areas proc their appearance
As of now probably 200 heralds no charms, though I enjoy them as some will blow up my merc and actually pose a challenge
here's to hunting

So far for me Herald's have been largely misplaced expectations, a waste of time. I've killed dozens for mediocre drops. Lately it seems as though it's getting increasingly difficult to even get them to spawn. At least 1 used to spawn in a single TZ, but lately just getting an Ire message across one or more TZs seems a matter of luck. Therefore I've concluded that the Herald's are all on a sabbatical taking Ire Management Classes, being direct by Deckard Cain.
OP
I think to actually be interesting they need to have them at a probability that they can spawn every 3-6min kinda thing.
Or at least wiping a full area should trigger one...
RN it's basically do you wanna look for sunders, or go mf for any other item in the game?

I'm basically a newb but here are my observations/complaints/suggestions:
* Heralds should not have an Ire system, instead it should just spawn a Herald randomly in the area when you kill an elite (2% of the time).
* Old non-latent sunders should be available as a drop in the game somehow. The latent ones are too rare and some builds don't work w/o a sunder.
* Heralds sometimes are too difficult to kill depending on what the base mob is, their multipliers should adjust based on the base mob.

they seem like a waste of time and i'm basically done farming them for now. encounter rate for heralds is way too low to be worth the time.

Okay shiiiii..... this statistic scares me now on hunting Heralds
I agree the Herald system needs a re-work. Sometimes I can go full acts without getting ire, then sometimes I get them in quick succession one after another! I do like the thrill of when one spawns especially the T5 heralds, though some can be overtuned and hard to kill (like act 5 minotaurs). The drop rate for the new sunder charms is hilariously bad, why put it in the game if it's so hard to find one? I like the idea of the old sunders still being in the game, and the new sunders you can up using runes or some new material. Either that or buff the drop chance of the new sunders, it needs to be 1/20 T5 Heralds, not 1/450!
I feel like I can't do them casually, because it only takes, say, 10 minutes to clear a zone, then I have to sit around for 20 minutes doing nothing waiting for the next zone.
I also don't feel like I can't do them seriously because I don't really want to terrorize entire acts and spend hours clearing out the entire game, especially to only maybe get a sunder.
It would be nice if "ire" stayed with your character, so you could just log on once a day and clear a couple zones and actually make some progress.

I just stopped caring about them.
It's three weeks since I last used a Shard and/or hunted Heralds.
So yeah, sign of a bad design if I'm skipping this content.
Sad, I liked the idea of fighting strong uniques beside act bosses/ubers.

Are they still in the game?
I onced stacked a few TZs and fought 5-6 T5 Heralds. When I then compared "effort and time" with the "result" I had not to ponder long to come to the conclusion that this is really a waste of time. Without using Shards Duriel is maybe the only TZ where you "naturally" can get 1-2 T4/5 Heralds - but you would have to forgo statue hunting which in comparison seems far more profitable.
In my experience, and judging by everything I’ve read so far, I’d have to take a week off from my job, lock myself away in the basement and neglect my family just to get a Sunder Charm with a few barely noticeable bonus affixes compared to my existing "old" one (perhaps except for the +damage/-enemy resistance). Seems totally worth it...NOT

After a 20 year break from D2 I started playing D2R in 2024 with my sons (9 and 10 years old)

I'm lucky to have only one of the new sunders after killing maybe 50 ish Heralds. And that was only after terrorizing and clearing 90 percent of act 2 (plus every new zone that appeared every half hour). The drop rate should either be buffed or at least allow old sunder charms to exist. Not only that but heralds are worthless exp wise. For something do difficult to kill they should at least be worth as much a wave from Baal's Minions.
