As a group of D2R fans - what are your collective thoughts on d4? I haven't touched it yet but with the disappointing lack of D2R news yesterday i'm considering giving it a shot. I liked d3 for a bit. Didn't have nearly the staying power as d2r (currently 1300 hours for me on d2r)
the release of the amazon seems neat i guess. I really know nothing about d4 other than the underwhelming community opinion on it at release.

If you want to gear up, destroy some monsters and collect cool loot, it's cool, there's a lot of stuff to do and you will have fun.
But if you want to play optimally and push the tower, the game's flaws and bugs became really grating and you will grow extremelly frustrated, this is what made me quit it.
Really not worth the time - speaking from someone who tried all classes and leveled them all to max Cap (Even played hardcore).
Reason I quit was because of its horrible itemization. The perfect gg item you finally acquired today might become trash tomorrow. To me, the D4 team does not seem to have a clear idea/vision on their itemization, so no point farming/grinding for stuff there, also, every new season is just a lazy cut and paste from last/previous season, very repetitive and unoriginal. I don't even wanna give it 1 minute anymore (hence quitted).
If you've played D2, I don't suggest you waste time/money on it. If you haven't, you can give it a shot since you have no benchmark nor expectation.
