Description

Hello,

I've been mucking about with crafting some Safety Boots (full specs below) and thought i would share the first 15 crafts. None of these are worth much, and mostly, will probably just be Charsi food. My thinking about the outcomes is along the following:

Boots 1 - Good first attempt. Got to 30FRW, and technically, a tri-res pair of Boots - although the rolls are low. This also rolled the max 4/2 for damage resistances. The heal stamina was the dud roll. If this was FHR or Cold resist, or fire resist, this would have been much better.

Boots 2 - Got the 30 FRW again, and this time with the 10 FHR roll too. Dual res - although again, low rolls. Still, I'm reasonably impressed.

Boots 4 - tri res Boots - quad-res if you count the poison length reduction of 25% - but low rolls. Decent Gold find of 75% too.

Boots 6 - the fire resist on this is 35% which means it rolled the fire affix, on top of the guaranteed 5% fire resist (standard stat on Safety Boots). Damage reduction rolled 4/2 max again.

Boots 14 - dual res (low rolls), max damage reduction 4/2 again, 25 MF.

Learning Points:

0. Rolling single res. Getting a res affix is quite easy. Getting high rolls is the tricky bit. The highest single roll in 15 attempts was a 33% on poison resistance. Many rolls are sub-25.

1. Rolling Dual Res. This seems quite frequent from the below (tiny) sample. However, getting high rolls again is the tricky part.

2. Rolling Tri/Quad Res. This is not uncommon either. But, fire will always be a low 5% unless you hit the additional affix. Even then, it might not be a high roll. Lots of the above Boots show 7, or 9 fire res, which means the affix was rolled but very low. It is possible to roll 3 resistances which are not fire, which when added to the default 5% fire res will give you a pair of quad res Boots - technically just.

3. Rolling FRW and FHR. The 30 FRW and 10 FHR can roll together, but not often.

4. Rolling Damage Reduction. The max rolls 4/2 appeared quite often here which hopefully means this is not a difficult roll to achieve.

5. Rolling Gold/Magic. Some of the Gold find rolls are quite high 62, 74, 79. Magic find is more conservative (as always) but still decent rolls to be had. Here, 2, 5 20, 25. 25 isn't quite War Travelers (30-50) but still...

Any observations, comments, or analysis welcome, whether or not you have rolled Boots before or not.

Also, except for Pairs 1 and 2, if anyone actually wants any of the rolled Boots Pairs 3 - 15 for free, please let me know. I still have most of these (though perhaps one was Charsi'd? out of RNG frustration!). Otherwise, I will make a new offering to Charsi (or to whomever is responsible for health and safety matters in Sanctuary) in a few days.

ps. if replying, please don't the whole quote text - the 15 image bit if copied is quite long - and we'll end up with a series of really long posts. Better to just do a non-quote (or selective quote) reply.

If you want to craft valuable Boots, you should rather craft Caster Boots (or maybe Blood Boots). The guaranteed affixes for those are better for most chars out there.

Did you have a specific reason to craft Safety Boots? If it is just for the chance to get ~50/40/40 res I would not do it. Good tri res Boots are already super rare and thus super valuable, I guess it wouldn't add much to hit 40+ fire res.

What exactly are you trying to obtain from crafting? That's what is unclear here. If your goal is tri res with run/walk and hit recovery you are wasting your time with crafting. Why? Because the static modifiers are garbage and take up affix slots, slots which could potentially roll more desirable affixes if it were a rare.

You wanna know the best way to obtain good tri-res Boots? Roll a lvl 43 character and gamble Boots . That will give you the best odds. Good luck because it will take hundreds of millions of Gold to get a good pair, the odds are extremely low because there are too many junk affixes Boots can roll from.

Yeah, absolutely, you are right ofc, the life (blood) and mana (caster) options are wildly more popular for obvious reasons but i guess I'm just taking the extra guaranteed 5% fire (every bit helps!), and the damage reductions for survivability on Safety!

Thanks; yes, looking to craft a well rounded pair of Boots with some useful resistances. But also an experiment into a first crafting project. There's also something more satisfying about crafting something useful than gambling for some...

That said, why is a lvl 43 character the optimum for gambling on Boots - is that the magic number that is higher enough for the number of affixes and resistances, but not too high so as to draw in other useless affixes? Ty.

The minimum ilvl for the 30% Faster Run/Walk suffix is ilvl (clvl) 38. Gambling generates a randomized ilvl range of clvl -5 to clvl + 4. In order to guarantee 100% of gambled items are eligible to roll the affix you want, your clvl must meet the min threshold. The base gambled on also plays a role in determining this, so gambling Boots is not the same as gambling Greaves, for example.

See this affix calculator:
https://tools.harrogath.com/affixcalc.html#quality=4&

If you use a higher clvl you introduce more unwanted affixes into the pool of possible rolls, this makes your odds of getting the good affixes worse. Not only that, using a higher clvl increases the gambling costs, also not desirable. If you gamble using a lower clvl you cannot roll 30% FRW, but can roll 20% and so on...
