Sometimes different people can view the same thing differently and that's okay, because sometimes the answer is relative, and that makes it subjective. When context, and personal preference dictates the outcome, then there is rarely a single "correct" answer. It only becomes an issue when someone decides their answer is the one right answer and makes it personal. So no need to fall on your sword just yet, because your view is no more wrong than those of others are right.JARY wrote: 4 days agoQuick, someone needs give one of those Shakespearean soliloquies at the end.. where a character dies and they give the lessons learned speech and the play ends...

I like Teleport. I don't think it breaks the game. I play how i like and how I have fun in this game I like, which like many others, is to sometimes play through and full clear the old fashioned way, and sometimes rush through a bit.
Go for a walk outside once in a while. Life is too short to be complaining about the AWP Teleport.
See everyone again for the next inevitable Teleport sucks thread?

I know @JARY has already noped out of this thread. But I'm catching up still.
People waiting in town for Wirt's Leg / portal to throne. Everyone dives in to the same place, run is over in a few seconds, rinse, repeat. One of those is originality? I'm just... not following. It seems like you really don't like Baal runs, which is fine. And that you're mad at Teleport about that for some reason... which is confusing.
And what does any of this have to do with pronouns? Are you claiming that someone who has pronoun preferences (I'm sure you yourself have pronoun preferences) can't handle criticism or something? Again, I'm just not following.
I remember that too... but... are you saying that old cow runs over and over with people waiting for someone to get Wirts Leg were originality? Honestly how is this much different from Baal runs? I'm genuinely not following here.JARY wrote: 4 days agoSome of my better early memories were the first few years of the game as a teen... in old D2 when it was like 600x400 resolution, I was really young, but I remember we'd be sitting in town for like 5 min then someone would finally be like "uhh.. is someone getting Leg" Then after minutes of chat a barb or someone would finally run to Trist and grab leg, then full party of Amzons, Sorc, Fury Druids, etc. would go group up and rip apart cows in 1.08-1.09, and it continued for a while in 1.10 with synergies till several years later... everyone just did Baal runs for the next 2 decades and that was the end of all originality in the game.

...says the guy who couldn't handle the responses he got and noped out of the thread. You seem to be the one looking for a safe space from the responses you got here. You got mild hostility and noped out and somehow you're not the one who needs a safe space? I don't follow.

No, I'm not. At all. You said a bunch of stuff that was false, so I corrected you. You aren't able to point out anything specific that refers to personal matters in anything I posted, since it doesn't exist. Why do you keep lying?AardvarksAdvance wrote: 1 week agoOuch. You’re taking this personally aren’t you? And you’re making a bunch of assumptions in that process..
You know that both you and I are speaking in generalities. Why are you pretending to not be aware of this fact?AardvarksAdvance wrote: 1 week agoNot everyone plays or played the game in the same way. Not even back in the open Battlenet days. Not everyone is about meta.
Most people play in the way that is most effective, and they find it fun to do so. The "meta" is whatever set of decisions people have so far found that seem to be the best for achieving the results they want. There is no reason at all to play poorly, and no reward for doing so, and it isn't fun. Killing monsters faster is more fun than killing them slower. Finding good items faster is more fun than finding them slower.
This is immediately contradicted by your very next sentence, in this post.AardvarksAdvance wrote: 1 week agoI also didn’t suggest a code of honour, whether in your head or anyone else’s.
So what? If you don't believe in a code of Honor, why shouldn't people do this? Oh right, it's because you DO believe in a code of Honor. You just haven't ever actually considered your own beliefs, nor their logical conclusion, so you don't even understand that "shortcuts are bad" and "carries are bad" is a code of Honor.AardvarksAdvance wrote: 1 week agoYes people play and replay to farm and level up, and there’s nothing inherently wrong about that, but the modern way of doing so involves asking for carries, using shortcuts and the rest… so the playing itself is often skipped altogether or else relegated to an inconvenient step on your way to maxing.
If you actually think that "there's nothing inherently wrong with that", then why did you bring it up at all? What is the point of "but the modern way involves asking for carries, using shortcuts", etc.? Why should we care?
It was always this way. I played the game before the expansion existed, and I have more experience with open and closed battle.net than you do. It was and it is, no matter how much you might not want to believe it.AardvarksAdvance wrote: 1 week agoAnd don’t tell me it was always this way and that this was the only way people ever played; it wasn’t and it isn’t, no matter how much you might want to believe it.
Can you actually provide a reason for why this is in any way preferable to any other method of playing the game that can't be summarized as "it's something I remember from my childhood, so it must be good and better than anything that came after"?JARY wrote: 4 days agoSome of my better early memories were the first few years of the game as a teen... in old D2 when it was like 600x400 resolution, I was really young, but I remember we'd be sitting in town for like 5 min then someone would finally be like "uhh.. is someone getting Leg" Then after minutes of chat a barb or someone would finally run to Trist and grab leg, then full party of Amzons, Sorc, Fury Druids, etc. would go group up and rip apart cows in 1.08-1.09
What is the functional difference between a cow run and a Baal run? Do you seriously not see the irony here?
Have you ever had a thought in your entire life?
Alright, you folks need to chill with the 'getting personal' stuff here or I will be putting a stop to it.
That said, on the actual topic, just let people play the way they want. And frankly, the way the devs clearly intended to be an option. Everyone (including the devs) knew what introducing Enigma meant as we all knew what sorcs were like before Enigma was added.
Enigma also isn't OP in the same way that say Mosaic is. D2 is (generalizing a bit) split into 3 types of content:
1) Travel
2) The stuff that's by design a complete waste of time and not worth farming compared to other stuff (trash mobs)
3) The stuff that's actually designed to be worth farming and that ideally should pose a bit of a challenge (although it admittedly rarely does)
Enigma and Teleport in general very much trim down #1 and #2. Or in other words it helps you bypass or speed up "filler content most people don't want to do anyways". At the same time, it has precious little impact on #3 so hardly interferes with or eases the stuff that should (again, in theory) present a challenge. I for one would argue that's a very good thing as it simply shifts more of our playtime onto "things more enjoyable and more worth doing" for those who choose to do so (while not forcing anyone into anything).
Something like Mosaic on the other hand has precious little impact on the filler content or travel but comes with a massive, relatively rather OP impact on #3 and hence removes any and all challenge from the type of content that should pose a challenge. I.e. the bad kind of OP as it doesn't trim down the "undesirable content" but instead just further trivializes the "real content".
Either way, Enigma and Teleport are a thing and have been for decades. And that's perfectly fine. If you don't like them then don't use them. Just don't go "I never said they should be removed" after going "they should be made to have no presence in PvM" as for the vast majority of the player base, that's effectively the same thing.
And just for the record, nostalgia is a hell of a drug and comes with some very rose colored glasses. I loved D2 back then and spent way too much time on it. But shortcuts, carrying and rushing have always been a thing. That's nothing new of the "modern age". Hell, remember Uber spinning? That was more of a shortcut than anything today could ever Dream of being and just about everyone who could merrily abused the hell out of it before going right back to endless tele Baals after it was removed.
