Asking for free stuff?

I am fairly new to D2R, but I use to play D2 a lot years ago. Is asking for free stuff (on non-ladder) frowned upon? What do people do with a bad roll anni or whatever once they hit end game farming?

Asking for my first character to reach hell that really doesn't want to die (hardcore). Thanks!

You can check the trade section for free stuff, there is a filter for it.

Many people give away anything from bad rolls to even high end gear.

You don't get anything unless you ask, and I am always surprised by the generosity of members of this site.

I started playing Diablo 2 for the first time in February of this year and still I am continually amazed by how generous this community can be. There are many members of this site who mark items as free with the intention of giving specific build items away to newer players who are struggling either in Hell or in general with a build. I've also seen this community donate runes to people who have bungled an expensive rune word. It's so refreshing to see a community that tries to help new players along to a point where they can truly enjoy to gameplay loop rather than gatekeep!

I am very thankful for the community members who offer free items. I was recently one of those players who asked for the free stuff, and if you're like me then there is a bit of guilt attached to receiving free things – especially once you realize how hard some items can be to come by. But there is no shame in it. This game can be hard, and RNG can be merciless.

Like others posted above, there is a filter for free items. In my experience, those community members who make those posts are happy to set up a time to get you what you need!

So long as you yourself don't mind "not earning it", there's nothing inherently wrong with asking for/accepting free stuff, as long as you do it in a "non-spammy" manner.

In that context, as was pointed out above already, the trade section here does have a "free" tag which can be used both in your own WTB topics and also when searching for offers to see what folks are just giving away. So when looking for free gear, that's the way to go, rather than using the general forum.

Additionally, there are giveaway games up in-game at pretty much any given moment (mostly on normal).

Apart from the generosity of the members here:

In game there are often free or freeee or FREE STUFF games on normal mode.
Most items are not very valuable, of course, but if you are just starting, you will find many useful items for leveling there.

This, try to find a Free stuff game on normal, you would be suprised, even tho is junk for advanced players, low and mid gear players will be really boosted, you could get some valuable armor, belts and weapons, anni and even torches.

Its a pain to grab something sometimes because its free for all and tons of people hoard like hell, but if you find one lobby like that give it a try, you could get some BIS with luck or at least some stuff to go till level 94.


Another option would be do a budget gearing, just gotta farm some countess on normal and nightmare (Stealth, Lore, Rhyme, Bulwark) with runes or Twiththroe, Sunder

Boots, Death Guard, etc, a decent budget gear could take you "easily" to End game Hell, so you have time enough to find BIS on the way.

Plenty of players who wont play nonladder and give away their gear. Usually this is happening near or right after a season ending.

What kind of stuff youre looking for? I have quite a bit of nonladder stuff I most likely wont even need.

I am mostly looking for stuff to help my merc live! I have a warlock and a summon necro both right at the start of hell. Merc has Insight and

Blood Helm/armor but still dies a lot. VGaze, mid runes (I am farming countess now), a good elite base for a better Insight.

I'll check for the free stuff channels. Honestly I think being on hardcore (its the only way I play) makes it a lot tougher.

Currently playing a warlock and a summon necro. Thanks for the tip! I'm already impressed with all the friendly responses here. I'll definitely be back with questions.
