Half of an answer is In your question. You just play the game, find stuff which people will buy for 15-25 Jay and after sale is completed you have that many

Jah to spend on something else.

People over time reach point in the game where they start buying 3/20/20 or some JP gear with incredible amounts of runes.

Don't hoard gear you don't use. or plan to use one day. Sell it.
If you are poor and found perfect item , base or perfect roll runeword -Sell it. This JP item will give not much benefit for your poor under geared character comparing to Similar , less perfect one.

as a beginner I can give you some tips to start becoming rich.
farm nihtalak for D keys in act 5, or

Mephisto for yellow essences in act 3.
those keys can be sold 2-3 for an

You can always be sure that a rune is worth their "cube value" (eg. 2

Ber) and in most cases, they are worth more when needed for good runewords (

Lo for Grief, Fortitude, Phoenix, ...; esp. When those runewords need re-rolling for BIS) or cube recipes (Rals for

Caster Amulet, ...).

A couple lucky finds. I was running around in uniques and super cheap runewords on my item find barb doing tzs. Found a

Gheed

Belt that sold for 6 jahs, then i found a latent cracked charm that got me another 5

Jah. I think a decent lightning+life skiller got me my first HR. If you check all your rw bases that drop you can usually find a high value base that's worth a HR or so every couple days. But you'll have to put in some effort to get those to sell, unless it's something real special. Also got some nice GC rerolls early on. Also, right now it's pretty easy to sell latent sunders for several jahs
