Description

Hi all. I am theorycrafting again and i came around some weird calculations on maxroll.gg (character planner).

It feels like all the mathematics are off from the calculations. Even the pet calculator here doesn't reflect the tooltips of the spells in the calculations.....

Clay, Blood and Iron golems have in their description that every level in
Fire Golem
would grant them +6% damages. This means 20 hard points would bring +120% damages.

Unfortunately i get the following (at level 20)...

WHY?

DAMAGES
Fire Golem
Level 0
Fire Golem
Level 20
Clay Lvl20 22-53 26-61
Blood Lvl20 137-377 151-417
Iron Lvl20 12-33 26-72
EDIT : It works for the
Iron Golem
calculation, but do the 120% dmg apply on weapon dmg additional inherited from the item used for crafting the
Iron Golem
?

Imma ask
Deckard Cain
AI but if someone could tell me i would appreciate.

The golem was a complete afterthought for Blizzard North devs, I guess.

It's a shame that the
Valkyrie
would destroy a
Fire Golem
with ease, considering the Necro is identifiable by their summons.

Of course the Necromancer has always been a step-child class in D2, even if Enigma +
Revive
make it viable for
Uber Tristram
.

Poison is busted, only has one decent skill, which still relies on
Corpse Explosion
. Bone/magic damage is hilarious for PvM.

Wish I could tell you why, but it looks like it's more along the lines of a miscalculation. Though, the character screen is and has always been a known liar for actual damage and stats. Maybe this is simply a case of that common and continual problem.

I think i kinda figured it out...

It looks like the tooltip only stacks the 6% on top of base dmg of lvl1 skill
DAMAGES
Fire Golem
Level 0
Fire Golem
Level 20
Clay Lvl1 3-7 6-15
Blood Lvl1 12-33 26-72
Iron Lvl1 12-33 26-72
This just looks very silly to me that the 6% synergy (times 20, 120%) would only apply to the base level 1 damages of the golems even when maxed at level 20? I don't know of any other spell that would behave this way...

See for the druid, the dire wolf gets 10% for every point in Grizzly.

sooooo
DAMAGE FOR DIRE WOLF Grizzly lvl 1 Grizzly lvl 20
Dire Wolf lvl 1 8-15 22-37
Dire Wolf lvl 20 106-136 267-343
It doesn't even work for Druid... It somehow displays less than what it should? If grizzly grants 10% per point, 20 would be 200%

106 times 300% should be 318, 136 times 300% should be 408. Instead we have

267/106 = 2.52 (+152% dmg, not 200%)
343/136 = 2.52 (also +152% dmg, not 200%)

Why are all calculations wrong for summons? Did they change something in ROTW?

They're not "wrong" so much as you simply aren't looking at the full, proper calculations because the tooltips don't tell you.
You'll need some outside resources to look those up.

Dire wolf for example doesn't just gain 10% per grizzly lvl but actually gains a bonus 15% if grizzly>0. So 25 at lvl 1, 215 at lvl 20.
As a result:
Lvl 20 dire wolf without grizzly: 85 to 109
Lvl 20 dire wolf with grizzly: 85*3.15 to 109*3.15 = 267.75 to 343.35, truncated (general rule of D2 math) = 267 to 343

Clay Golem
is completely different as it doesn't gain any base dmg per golem lvl. Instead, it gains 35%ed for every skill lvl after 1, applied to the same crappy base dmg:
Lvl 1 = 3 to 7
Lvl 2 = 3*1.35 to 7*1.35 = 4.05 to 9.45, truncated = 4 to 9
Lvl 20 = 3*7.65 to 7*7.65 = 22.95 to 53.55, truncated = 22 to 53
Fire Golem
would add 20*6 = 120ed to that. But because the base dmg isn't just base dmg but already includes 665% ed, you're merely summing those, leaving you with:
Lvl 1 +
Fire Golem
20 = 3*2.2 to 7*2.2 = 6.6 to 15.4, truncated = 6 to 15
Lvl 20 +
Fire Golem
20 = 3*8.85 to 7*8.85 = 26.55 to 61.95, truncated = 26 to 61
Golem math was set up well before synergies and such ever existed and was simply never rebalanced.

I am not sure if it is possible to make those golems work in late game. Apart from 1 point in
Clay Golem
, or Insight iron one may be.
I tried
Metalgrid
with Lawbringer -based golem. Not easy to keep him alive. Especially since my bowazon tends to die often, taking golems with her to oblivion. His damage and life leech with 3 auras (
Fanaticism
+might +
Concentration
) is ok, but life pool too low.
I am not rich enough to try Infinity golem on my
Nova
sorc in forseable future. Hopefully that works better than anything. It will be for aura purpose, not for damage. I don't believe in significant damage from golems, synergized or not.
