With its remarkably low level requirement and substantial increase to Fire Bolt, Bane Ash is a fine choice for a fire Sorceress prior to the placement of a Tir rune into the staff that will eventually become her Leaf.

Staves cannot be obtained through gambling, which means that if you want a Bane Ash, you will have to farm for it.
It is a slightly rare TC3 item. If you are working on your Holy Grail or Chronicle and are missing some low level unique items, my recommendation is to target-farm this item before attempting to gamble for some other low level uniques, as it is highly likely that you will find quite a few of those other items along the way.
I initially used my Holy Fire Auradin to sweep farm Normal Act 1 for several hours, but had no luck. I then switched to my Barb with 771mf and 65% Find Item, and target-farmed Coldcrow in Normal. Bane Ash finally dropped through Find Item on the 167th run. During the whole process, I found 8x Pelta Lunata (including one perfect, and one ethereal), 4x The Hand of Broc, 2x Lenymo, 2x Rixot's Keen, 3x Biggin's Bonnet, 3x Hotspur, 1x Serpent Lord, 1x Gull, 1x Greyform. A total of more than 20 Short Staves dropped but rolled to be magic or rare.
