The game is epic, the dlc a success. New changes are coming that are very good for the long health of the game...act 6 in september probably.
So...answering the question...No! the game is not ruined, on the contrary, it's never been better that now.
Maybe I haven't been paying attention... act 6? i didn't see anything about that! Where is that info? I'm curious how they would fit that into the continuity since we know what happens in D3/4.

This is my theory (just speculation, i don't have any confirmation about this) on why we probably get act 6 in Blizzcon 2026 (Sep 12 – Sep 13).
Hint 01:
Cinematic video about the Warlock...
D2 Parts:
- Second 0:09 to 0:40
- Second 1:12 to 1:34
- Second 2:02 to 2:13
In Second: 0:21...the Warlock talks about "The Church", probably talking about the "The Cathedral of Light".
* Origin: Founded ~3,000 years before Diablo II during the Sin War, it was designed to combat the Triune, which was a cult serving the Prime Evils.
* Fall and Rise: The church was originally destroyed in ancient conflicts but returned with Inarius before the events of Diablo II.
Probably in act 6 we are going to discover the first steps of Inarius on the inception of the modern version of the "The Cathedral of Light" we see in Diablo 4 and the first stage of evolution for the Warlock Class.
Yeah, overall I think ROTW was a positive, especially if the proposed changes mostly come through. As others have said, I do not enjoy the current Herald system, players like myself who can usually only play a little bit here and there are punished whereas streamers who play for 12 hours straight would get a lot more benefit.
But the QoL improvements are good, and the prospect of additional content has me cautiously optimistic. I think the expansion has probably done well enough commercially that they can justify the investment in more content.
Overall, it feels to me that successor titles didnt do as well as Blizzard wanted, D2R being as popular as it is, it might basically take up the mantle of being the current "premiere" Diablo title, the one that gets the development love, new content etc.
