OP
If I had let me scammed, I would not complain, it would be my bad alone.
I emphasize my "naivity" as means to express the morally correct way to act in the world, which would make it easier on everyone. Every buyer that jumps off will eventually end up as a seller, suffering from the same problem he caused in the first place.

Due to our conversation, however, I have only seen the point that the experience also heavily depends on the kinds of goods you supply. If it is a replaceable commodity, then chances are probably considerably bigger that someone jumps off for a quicker trade.
I usually do not sell commodities, so maybe that's why my experience differs (though bursting trades are not half as miserable for those goods anyways).
Also if someone does or does not react within some timeframe is largely irrelevant for me, I can wait and the time spent is minimal.
Though it never occured to me that someone literally retracted from the trade between us negotiating ingame and me setting up a game...

I will not take offers that bypass diablo2.io

and part of my point is that doing this is very annoying.

You took it out of context deliberately.

Actually I think I went out of my way to include your full context. Would you care to place that statement in some broader context which substantially changes its meaning?

OP
I retract my complaint. If all your reaction to my post points to these few words, there's no point in talking any further.

I wish you more luck on your next 4 trade though.

Thanks. Assuming (naively) that you really mean what you say and aren't being sarcastic on the basis of me not having as many logged trades on this site as you do, I hope so too. And I hope that all your future trades are free of BS and shenanigans, and that you get what you ask for and what you pay for promptly. I hope this for everyone. Things would be better that way for all concerned.

OP
Thank you.
My hope is not yet lost that enough people sticking to their word, even if inconvenient at times, might improve the situation for many.
In the meantime I will try to avoid being disappointed, by simply not being on the buyer side too often.

asynchronous trade would be a Huge
Leap
in trading practice. (one can wish)..

In the meantime, it really depends on the seller or buyer.

Not everyone thinks the same, or play on the same frequency.

That ban hammer tho.. 🤣

Also I'm not angry because I didn't get an item cheap, I'm angry because it was an item that is not on trade every day and I had liked a fair chance at it.
What item was it, if I may ask.

After a 20 year break from D2 I started playing D2R in 2024 with my sons (9 and 10 years old)

Personally, I choose to use this site for my trading precisely because there is at least some etiquette. I do wish that there would be a touch more patience from both buyers and sellers, especially given the challenges of time zones and normal life, but my experience has mostly been positive, and the level of maturity and patience here is well beyond any other trading platform I have tried.

In the scenario you describe, if I was the seller and received an amazing offer in private, I would likely accept it, but I would either ask the person to make a public bid or simply add a post to the trade thread with the offer received. Even if there is no time for you to make a counter offer, at least the transaction is then transparent. Deleting the thread is not right, in my opinion.

I would encourage you to carry on trading as you have been; better to uphold your own standards and be occasionally let down than to behave in a way that you dislike. We all appreciate a nice trading experience.

I work most of the day and do not have time to do many trades throughout the day and sometimes the nights due to having two children. However I find that here on diablo2.io it is way easier to have some patience in regards to trading, as opposed to for instance another site, where people will bid throughout the day, and cancel the offer if I do not react within 30 minutes or 1 hours. That is totally fair, and I understand their point of view, but here I sense people are better to withhold their offers. And that makes me happy

it seems to me as if no third party needs to be involved.
perhaps he just withdrew his trade and wanted to avoid having to give awkward explanations.
other reasons are possible

My trades are on Sofftcore Non-Ladder Europe
Please leave a estimate time and date to trade upon an offer so both parties can save time, thank you.

I think everything that was needed to be said has been said. I don't wish to close the thread, but may come to that if needed.

To sum up :
- Trading is trading, and as it's not implemented in the diablo 2 Blizzard features, some sites, like this one, Traderie or JSP have fulfilled the spot. With rather various approaches, and various communities.

- We encourage using the etiquette, as well reminded by Teebling in the aforementioned post. However, we won't go after each trade to check that eveything went fine of course, we mods have a real life too ^^. However, there is a report function if you believe something really bad (i.e. against the rules, not against the etiquette) happened.

- It's definitely unperfect : people will take advantage of less experienced players, selling too high or buying too low, not honoring what seemed to be done deals... a bit like in real life, an oral agreement is not done until the contract is signed.

- It would be better if all happened with better-minded people, respecting words, BIN values even if value is above, holding appointments on time, etc. Sure. But it's real life, and it's not perfect. That's the best we came with, and hopefully, most of the experience you had here is good and only exceptions are bad.

And remember : it's just a game. Have all a fun and nice day ! <3

On here, I stick to agreements and have traded things even when I had higher offers from someone else after accepting an offer.

On traderie, I adopted to what's common and accepted there. People retract offers after 25 seconds because "buyer was not responsive". There, a deal is only done when it's completed. Before both traders have clicked the green checkbox in the trade window, everything is just dust. I don't like it but I accept it.

Even though I stick to my word here, I don't expect this from others. I don't think it's rudeness from them but just a different culture. Not everywhere having a word stronger than oak makes you a good business person.
But I appreciate everyone who sticks to a handshake agreement.

Looking for a cheap Cure on D2R HCNL? I got some!

I also have 100+ crafted amulets (from cheap to gg) on D2R SCNL. Let me know what you are looking for. 🙂

In the end, this does reflect real world business practices. Some companies and individuals are known to be very honorable (the old school concept of a handshake deal being binding) whereas others have a reputation for very borderline tactics.

For me, 99% of the trades here have been wonderful and the community generally excellent. Hope that you start to hit your stride soon.
