I found an ethereal 4os one in the pits, looked it up on

Arreat Summit as I normally find CVs, threshers, CAs etc and saw the damage is lower, so I was surprised to sell this for a

When reading item speed, the lower the number, the better. So -10 is really fast, 0 is slower, 10 is even slower, etc. I kinda still like

Thresher better just because it looks cooler lol. I think in most cases you are splitting hairs with which one is effectively better.

There used to be theses and publications about which polearm in which combination has the best DPS, and how things could be situational depending on whether your main targets would be boss fights or mob packs, etc etc. People argue about that stuff with formulas and spreadsheets.

That started to die down quite a bit after Sunder Charms were introduced, as many toons could then effectively take care of business themselves, and merc DPS isn't that crucial anymore - they became more of the aura(s) providers.

Then with how OP Warlocks along with their bound demon are in RotW, the importance of merc goes down further. So many times I wish my merc would just cower in a safe corner holding up that aura stick, and don't go suicide charging towards a T5

Herald pack. His dps along with the weapon he is using become negligible.

So yea, different polearm bases still have different valuation, but not as drastically different as before.

We all know the the merc AI is asinine. My smiter's A5 merc goes full looney toon on one specific occasion. Uber Duriel. I don't know what it is but 9 times out of 10 he won't attack

Duriel. He will just stand there. Sometimes getting hit sometimes not. Sometimes he will putz around or just stand there. But almost never engage Uber Duriel. Literally any other monster or boss, he acts like his normal suicidal self.

It has been reported that there are some bugs related to Uber Duriel, such as Assassin's traps won't fire, and sometimes mercs would wander off to fight random mobs instead of Uber Duriel, etc.

I actually welcome this change. It's kind of a desired nerf for Act 2 merc. Finally, he isn't the "go for" merc anymore he was for way too long, making A1/A3 somewhat suitable, at least for hunting heralds. A2 is still the king for virtually anything else.

It's at least a step in the right direction. I hope the devs will improve A3 mercs again. Still no one uses them, while Rogue Scout and Barbarian have some niche value.

Just like the necro summoner, you have 16 skeletons, 10 caster, 20 undead and a golem but the first one to the uber is the Merc and get's himself killed? #bloodyHell

For my ES lock, still wondering if a1 Mist would not be better than a2 Pride to get conc aura - cheaper and stays alive more, even if lesser boost

Small correction, for Infinity and Obedience, there is a faster base:

Mancatcher -20.
But it belongs to the

Spear class, so you can't do Insight in it (how many times I have forgotton about this...)

A3 merc at least needs some kind of elemental mastery, so auramerc builds (dual Dream or Dragon/HoJ) become a valuable option. I am okay with them having to deal with immunes, but then damage should be buffed by a good margin. I mean, they are clearly designed as offensive options and are lacking attack power...

I swapped A2 for a Mistgirl and I am happy about it. For solo play, the lower Conc aura is more than sufficient, and she gets

Fanaticism from my Demon and (hopefully) some other aura from me at some day. Amp + Lethargy makes her do DOUBLE damage with 100%

Pierce. This is more than any other merc is able to. Add the spread damage provided by two Defilers and she really wrecks!

But I am playing full summoner lock, no ES.
