is Archon staff really that rare?

Archon Staff may also get 5OS. So in the end, you can't be sure what they roll if purchased from unreliable sources that traders are.

Just do some Cows in Hell and wait for any of the three dropping, then

Recipe: Add Sockets to Normal Weapon, but ended up deeming it not worthy wasting

Getting back in to D2 after a long time. If someone puts a regular

Archon Staff for the quest adding sockets, will it give them max 6 sockets? I forget how that worked...

Just saw that recipe today. Me trying to figure this out in my head... I imagine using that recipe would be if you were aiming for some runeword that uses 5 runes instead of 6. Like if I had some weapon that I wanted Grief, etc?
