Due to decent physical damage, added fire damage and Ignore Target's Defense it can be used pretty effectively for melee builds during Nightmare. Also the added Fire Res + 10 Max Fire Res are great defensive suffixes on the weapon slot.
The damage starts to fall off around NM Act 5/Hell Act 1 though.
For a fire sorc it is outclassed by Leaf. Yet for a firedruid, for example, it would be better.
Alongside Spirit, this is a decent budget weapon for a Fire Warlock. If you put one skill point into Levitation Mastery (and you have some +skills), you can even lower the requirements so that you don't need to put a lot of extra points into Dexterity.
Additionally, the look of a Persian Shamshir fits perfectly to the Warlock.
