Something big did happen - they officially released the game in China (it never was before - any Chinese players were playing via VPN to be able to reach Blizzard services outside of China).
Well, the Chinese version does include the option to buy additional shared stash tabs (up to 7 total), and Blizzard also did say during an official Q&A leading up to the Chinese release that they envisioned there only being one version of the game (same everywhere), but whether that actually means the ability to buy extra stash tabs will end up in our version as well is anyone's guess. They also said during the same Q&A that Mosaic will be changed, but that hasn't happened yet, neither for us or in the Chinese version - though to be fair, it could still happen.
I don't want to instill too much hope here, but BlizzTrack.com has some kind of a tracker for D2R version, both for the current live version and a vendor version which I would assume is for ongoing development, and the vendor version has been getting updates now and then (like once every 1-2 weeks) since mid-July. Last one just a few minutes ago. So it's possible they are actually working on something.

If you look more closely you can also see that the tracker reports that this version was last updated 5th of December 2024, which matches with when D2R was last actually patched (season 9 started 7th of December - it had a minor bug fix).

I know they're not the same company they were years ago, but that'd be low, even for them.
That'd definitely fit current Bli$$ard.
They released a patch just to update a Korean license. And released it together with ladder reset, when people were expecting actual changes. If this isn't trolling and complete lack of respect towards players, then I don't know what it is.

Don't worry, it won't be. I am quite confident that they'll allow you to spend real money on more item stashs with the next patch.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they took something like that, which many players have really wanted, and used it as an opportunity to make a quick buck.
I've said in the past, and I remain... if Blizzard were to start charging for bug fix patches in games at some point, it wouldn't surprise me. "Buy our comprehensive game fix today! $29.99! on sale!"

It's from Wikipedia, but I don't see any reason to disbelieve it, other source seem to confirm this - Blizzard themselves seem to count it as 1996, since the first copies were apparently sold in December already. But still seems a bit early for a 30th anniversary (the 20th anniversary was announced in December 2016, from what I can tell).

I think Blizzard is just pulling early on the teat, to see how much they can milk it for? They don't actually say the 30th year has arrived, while at the same time using language that sort of implies it.

Diablo came out in 1996.
It says early 1997 on wikipedia and in my memory. Although even if it's off by a few days, it would be very late 2026 when the anniversary hits.
