I was trying to organize my mules to get ready for ladder reset and I have a hoarding problem. 20 years of LOD meant that I kept everything that dropped because drops were so bad. Seriously, I never completed Immortal King or Tal Rasha's, now I have two copies of both and IK gloves and Boots are now throwaway items I see them so often. In The Disciple set I only found Laying of Hands, now I leave anything from the set (except the amulet) on the Ground or drop in the FREE4U lobby games. I noticed something similar in uniques. It feels to me that D2R has much better drop rates on a lot of items, which I appreciate. Score one for Good Blizzard.
In the process of organizing I was griping about the 24 character limit so I did a little digging. My single player .d2s files are only 1kb to 4kb per character. Since a characters only require the .d2s file (the others can be generated), a single terabyte can store over 250 million of those characters. I searched for player numbers and found that the current player base is about 53,000 and the total subscribers is about 5 million. If Blizzard were cruel and required regular login, then the 53,000 active players could have each have over 4,500 characters. For the total subscribers a single terabyte could give each of us over 50 characters. A terabyte drive on Amazon right now is less than $100 USD. Even if the storage needs per character were double, the total storage required for all of our characters is very small. For the cost of what Blizzard spends on coffee in a day, we can all have our character limits doubled without charging us a dime. We aren't limited by storage capacity, we are limited by Blizzard's decisions. Score one for Bad Blizzard.
My searching for player counts ended up on an auction site so I checked it out for kicks and was blown away. The site I found was charging $50 USD for a 1-40 character leveling service. 1-90 was over $80. I was doing that for free for people. Are there actually people paying for leveling? The site reported some numbers on how many order and they had 38,000+ on the 1-40. That's almost $2 million. Why am I working for a living if there is that kind of money in this?
For the record, I'm not quitting my job for the pipe Dream of being a paid Gamer. I just wonder if people are really paying for that, and how much money is actually being spent. However, I might start charging people for power leveling though. I could up it from free to Chipped Gems.

Old man still killing demons and yelling at clouds.
Hello, with new d2r, you probably need to adjust your keep policy. Basically, except upgrade full and the g face you are using, you might consider throw everything out. Imm 136 gloves, perfect Tal Rasha, and some perfect things that is so hard to achieve. Those thing combine, you dont need 100 space.
Exclude something you are using and those should be limit to 100 space, you will need only 100 space for secondary replacement items.
Sell all unused but good condition item to market... if market doesnt take it , even with several Perfect Amethyst, it usually means you should vendor it.
If you organize it well, you should have 9 char of space.
The other way is just buy another account to store it and dont organize at all.
"if small money can resolve problem, it is not problem at all"
I recently approve this way, there are some way that people will sell their d2r account cheap. In my case, I was having many friend that play d2r and they are not playing them today. I pay a lunch to get their account, it can be Mcdonald or something home-cooked. Of course they might have something looks valuable for people still play today, but for them , no , it is 0 value , not worth more than a cheap lunch.
instead farming day and night, I prepare a lunch for my ex-player friend and gathering around.
The remaining content that Attract me is only low-lv play and I dont play much of it, everything else is like repeat-task.

Favor Perfect Amethyst over Perfect Skull...
These days, I don't need that much Perfect Skull, it is less encourage to pay in Perfect Skull but it will treat slightly better than Perfect Gems.

Answering your question: People will do almost anything for money. Some sell services like leveling and some sell items. Here's an example on Ebay. This is a link to services but some also sell items such as runes.

You can use market as big storage, it will solve many problems. You only get necessarily item when you really need it and people compete to sell them will also grand you reasonable price to storage them. Consider it as storage fee that you rent from others.

it is not reasonable service, you can easily find a leveling room in bnet today.mhlg wrote: 1 day agoAnswering your question: People will do almost anything for money. Someone must be buying or there wouldn't be anyone on Ebay advertising their services or selling Jah runes. There are plenty of free services out there, but they might not be convenient for some.leox wrote: 1 day agoit is not reasonable service, you can easily find a leveling room in bnet today.mhlg wrote: 1 day agoAnswering your question: People will do almost anything for money. OP
That's basically what I'm doing. I had a bunch of stuff posted but no one was buying and I'm starting to get a better idea of what is worth keeping so I'm just going to drop of bunch of stuff in free games and delete a bunch of mules.
I've been following your low level posts. I think it's really interesting. For myself, I've been making the builds that weren't available to me in single player LOD. Once I do that I'll probably lose interest for a while. Then I'll be back to do some hardcore.
I get doing it for money. What I don't get is paying for it. Like @leox said, you can find free rushes and power leveling on Bnet at almost any time. Or for $40 make a second account and rush/level yourself as many times as you want instead of a single 1-40 rush. It's just wild to me that people are willing to pay as much as they do and that enough people are doing it that there is a whole economy around it.mhlg wrote: 1 day agoAnswering your question: People will do almost anything for money. It used to be a lot easier finding impromptu multiplayer games on Bnet, but not anymore. When I'm on I always check to see what's happening on Bnet and it's unusual to find a game with more than 2 or 3 people. I just checked and there was a single filled game doing a Chaos run, and odds are good that it's a TLD game, which means it has a password. I checked and yes TLD started a Chaos run at a little after 10 PM EST. So if someone is looking for multiplayer games then the best option is to either start a group or join a group who regularly schedules them.RackAnewShoe wrote: 1 day agoThat's basically what I'm doing. Your right about this. This came up in a post not too long ago forums/how-to-get-into-multiplayer-t1667307.html (I just double-checked and you were in on that thread also) and I had the same conclusion as you. Completionist or walking groups are uncommon. Rushes and leveling games are not too rare, but for someone just wanted to a regular playthrough, it can be tough finding an impromptu game.mhlg wrote: 1 day agoIt used to be a lot easier finding impromptu multiplayer games on Bnet... TL;DR= but yes, there's people stupid enough to pay for shit, does not matter if their excuse is "I don't have time to play/kids/etc." if he does not have time to play and decides to pay for stuff then don't fucking bother playing lol.RackAnewShoe wrote: 1 day agoI was trying to organize my mules to get ready for ladder reset and I have a hoarding problem. 20 years of LOD meant that I kept everything that dropped because drops were so bad. and yes blizzard is cheap as fuck, it would take nothing to have enough space on stash with let's say 500 stash windows to fill with your crap lol. it would also help a lot if items like gems/runes could stack lol.
in L2 I loved being able to buy 500 hp/mp pots and walk around with pots for days without having to constantly pick from the floor/buy lol, also buying enough Arrows to not need to stock again in days.
It may feel like that because you probably are more informed now and know what to look for and where to look for it. Drop rates in general have not changed from LoD to D2R, with the exception of things like Andariel quest drops always being on in D2R.RackAnewShoe wrote: 1 day agoIt feels to me that D2R has much better drop rates on a lot of items, which I appreciate. Storage space is just one part of the equation though, Raka. To support more character slots, they would need to make changes to the game client to be able to render the additional character slots and allow users to navigate between them etc. There's probably database/networking work that would need to be done for online characters. It's not a trivial amount of work - and nor is it a huge amount of work - I just want to highlight that storage space is not the only thing that would need to be considered by the developers in order to increase the number of character slots.RackAnewShoe wrote: 1 day agoIn the process of organizing I was griping about the 24 character limit so I did a little digging. Then there is the business consideration, which as you say is their decision to make. They probably worked out that by putting a character limit in could encourage power users to buy more copies of the game. This approach is also cheaper development-wise since they wouldn't have to develop a 'store' ecosystem for purchasing additional character slots in the first place - all they'd need to do is permit users to buy multiple copies of the game instead - no need for a store.
As for why they have done this (introduced a store for buying in-game services like stash tabs) in China, but not in the West - this is probably because Chinese players are much warmer towards microtransactions/in-game purchases in the first place. Actually, to say 'warmer' is not even correct - I'd imagine that Chinese players would be surprised were a shop to be absent. We've yet to see if the shop they developed there will make it to game versions outside of China - they may well decide that it's worth taking the plunge and trying it next patch. They may also (giving Blizzard the benefit of the doubt here) want to respect Western sensitivities around in-game purchases for such a classic title, preserving D2R as a faithful remake with (only) minor QoL improvements - which was always (they say) their intention from the start.
The RMT website developers probably just fake the numbers to make it look like a popular option that loads of others have bought. I would not trust these figures personally.RackAnewShoe wrote: 1 day agoThe site reported some numbers on how many order and they had 38,000+ on the 1-40. That's almost $2 million. Blizzard only giving us 24 chars is not about storage capacities. And I doubt that there are programming limitations that can't be solved. It is just about artificially making space scarce so that hardcore collectors or traders (who like to trade 1000 Ral and 1000 Hel) have to buy multiple accounts.
Modern gaming capitalism is not about giving people everything they want with just one purchase (pressed on a CD/DVD). It is about giving people a limited base game and making them want more and more for extra money.
In the case of D2R they don't sell stash tabs and extra character slots and the like (which would work pretty well, I guess, PoE shows it) but they are content with selling more accounts. Less work for them, but for us, it is just annoying.
In short: Less storage space = more accounts = more money for Blizz
