Description

Hi,

I want to make my first Fortitude for my Merc and am searching for a good base. I can see Sacred Armor (~800 Def) and Great Haubrek (~790 Def) available. Would these essentially make the same Fortitude? Is there any better mutliplier of Def or other stats when you make it in Sacred Armor (i.e Not a light armor).

Sacred Armor seems much more expensive for similar defense option - hence the question before I spend.

Thanks for the help!

I would use Great Hauberk as it has a way lower Strength Requirement.

But i wouldn't mind looking for other Elite Armours options, as Great Hauberk is not the best choice regarding light armours, as there are other options with more defense, such as Archon Plate.

If your merc already have 232 strentgh, go with Sacred Armour.

normally , I recommend 2 choice

1. use any between 800-900 def , price below/equal to Lo. Build fort and use it.

2.Get a good base, 950+, repeat build fort/ Hel until you get max X life.

The base between 850 and 1000 is not very big , within 10% hit ratio. If you use bar, the difference might less than 4%.

The X life part is more significant than base, let's say non- Eth base highest roll can beat Eth 800 def lowest roll.

Focus on defense, in the end, it only matters. Any base is fine for merc, def matters

Some Trade is available for both rotw and LoD, Most rune , Perfect Gems is only in LoD side.

Fortitude provides 200 enhanced defense. This is on the defense of the base. Which means that the total defense of a Fortitude can be different even though the base had the same defense.

For example, if you have a 15 Ed sup Great Hauberk it will have 578 def.
If you make a Fortitude with it, you will have 502*3.15 = 1532 def.

If however you use a 578 def Sacred Armor, you will end up with 578*3 = 1734 def.

For some 800def is the line, for others it's 750 or even 720. But this is the line of base def, not sup Ed displayed def.

In the end, Fortitude is so awesome that won't care/notice if it has some more def or not. But it impacts the resell value by a lot.

Playing HC SSF right now.

Any high defense 4 OS Elite armor with reasonable strength requirements, preferably Eth will do.

My impression is that while you could make an argument for the Hauberk actually being a better choice in game given the lighter armour class and lower strength requirement on very close defense numbers a Sacred Armor base would be a better resell value if for whatever reason you wanted to flip it down the road, a lot more players will see the Hauberk base and think "but that's not the best one" by default which seems at least worth considering when you're looking at sinking high runes into it. Idk, I probably don't have enough experience with this to be giving advice tbh

Any high defense 4 OS base armor will work, but you have to consider when your merc is able to use it. A Sacred Armor has a high strength requirement of 232. An act 2 merc gains strength at a rate of about 2 strength per level. That means at level 90 your merc will have a strength of about +/- 197, and at 95, about +/- 205. So to use it earlier you will have to offset your mercs strength which largely means adjusting it through his Helm or weapon, and that will limit gear and weapon choice.

Only go for the Sacred Armor if you use an Andariel's Visage, otherwise if you do not go for the big boy SA, I would pick a light armor (your merc will be faster than with a medium or heavy armor, just like your char). Good options are Archon Plate, Dusk Shroud, Great Hauberk. It's great if they have ed, not just for the extra tiny ed you get on top, but because the defense calculation of the Forti uses the highest base defense for tripling it.

I would take the Great Hauberk, roll Fortitude in it and not look back, especially when starting out and making the first one. I think you have better uses for the extra currency you have to pay for the Sacred Armor which has a restrictive strength requirement and its defense isn't even that much better. Totally not worth it in my opinion. I also rolled Fortitude in an Eth. sup. Great Hauberk (which yours must also be if it has 790 def) and I'm happy with 2300+ defense

If you offer what I ask for, you can add me on bnet for faster trade.

Sacred Armor isn't heavy but medium armor.
So run speed isn't as limited as Full Plate Mail for exemple.

For merc you should use Eth and the requirements for Eth are lower, namely 10 less str. So for Eth SA it's 222 str.

But apart from that everything else is correct. SA usually goes with Andy's since they match very nicely in many regards.

You can also consider a Scarab Husk. Then also A1 Mercs can use it.

Hi, here is break down for fort vs diablo

Eth vs non- Eth 3% Dodge
top Eth 600 scare armor vs non Eth Scarab Husk 369 9% Dodge (perfect base vs anti-perfect easy find base)
ED 15 vs non ED 1% Dodge
Every 200 final defense is around 1% Dodge. Above case, 1900 vs 2300 is only 2% Dodge

Eth armor selection
15 ED +1% Dodge
900
830 -1% Dodge
750 -2% Dodge

---maxroll calculation valid all merc include a5 bar---

The difference is not that much, get X life maxed is more important.

The cost performance way is choose around 1 Ist Eth base, repeat build , sell into market until you get X life full.
You can get max-rolled 750 def base to beat up any 15ED+ 900 sa without max-rolled X life.
Def only work when stand still...

Some Trade is available for both rotw and LoD, Most rune , Perfect Gems is only in LoD side.

Merc has a pretty high life pool and life/lvl is not boable. I don't think having ~4350 life instead of ~4300 matters that much.

my calculation is base on 3000 hp,
30 hp is around 1%,
Think about that compare to Dodge 1% that need stand still.

The other thing is if your merc don't die that much, why would you pay 1% more performance with cost 3-10 Jah?

Of course, it does not matter much. The defense differences between the armor types don't matter much, either. It's just about min-maxing a runeword that is so stupidly strong that the base hardly matters at all. Even in a Gothic Plate and a bad life roll Fortitude is sick. It would lose a lot of defense, with Chilling Armor it would still have more defense than most armors. Mosaic, Spirit, Enigma, Infinitity, CoH etc. the rolls and bases hardly matter at all in terms of power, for Fortitude the rolls and bases matter just a little bit.
So basically, you can only make a good Fortitude, a very good one or an insane one. This game is not balanced. With some items, you always win (the question is only how big).
