Can be used to make Runewords:
A point to consider before choosing a runeword shield is how much you can afford. Many runewords are subject to the outcome of good and not so good rolls. An Exile for instance requires Vex, Ohm, Ist, and Dol runes, and can vary from Level 13-16 Defiance Aura, and +220-260% Enhanced Defense. A Phoenix runeword requires Vex, Vex, Lo, and Jah, runes and it can vary with Level 10-15 Redemption Aura, and +350-400% Enhanced Damage. Both runewords can be for some quite expensive, so before rolling one you have to decide if you're willing to accept a less than perfect roll, or if you have the runes to try and roll the dive for a better outcome, and then you're going to need a decent base to make it worth it.
OP
Links are broken so I tried using the Google to find it and it just kept looping me back into the "Budget Uber Smiter Build" videos with Guillame, LOH, Anni, Torch, Verdungo, Last Wish, etc. Which, to me, is definitely not "budget".oOKIWIOo wrote: 3 weeks agoCheck out this Stream from Schmuck(Offline HC Pally with absolute low lvl gear and 1500 life)

Edit: I do remember seeing somebody do Ubers with Sigon's complete plus some other pretty good gear.
OP
All that is true, but a poorly rolled Exile or Phoenix will absolutely beat the best rolled Spirit for a smiter. The question here was what to use before I get all that expensive stuff to drop or trade.mhlg wrote: 3 weeks agoA point to consider before choosing a runeword shield is how much you can afford. You have to put it together like I said at the end of the posting I linkedRackAnewShoe wrote: 3 weeks agoLinks are broken so I tried using the Google to find it and it just kept looping me back into the "Budget Uber Smiter Build" videos with Guillame, LOH, Anni, Torch, Verdungo, Last Wish, etc. Which, to me, is definitely not "budget".oOKIWIOo wrote: 3 weeks agoCheck out this Stream from Schmuck(Offline HC Pally with absolute low lvl gear and 1500 life)

True but a simple and cheap to buy HOZ will get the job done well until the you can assemble the runes and obtain enough Wealth to experiment, and remember the thread was tittled "budget smiter shield." You can get a decent HOZ for an Ist, and socket it with a P Diamond for 69% all resists or Um for 72% all resists. I began running Ubers more than three years ago. In the first year I averaged better than 20 runs per month and more in the second and third years. My build never had a single Death until near the end of the second year when I began experimenting with a Last Wish, I went back to using a Grief. Here is the thread detailing my start.RackAnewShoe wrote: 3 weeks agoAll that is true, but a poorly rolled Exile or Phoenix will absolutely beat the best rolled Spirit for a smiter. Farming keys is the worst part about Uber Tristram. How do you farm up that many keys per month?mhlg wrote: 3 weeks agoTrue but a simple and cheap to buy HOZ will get the job done well until the OP can assemble the runes and obtain enough Wealth to experiment, and remember the thread was tittled "budget smiter shield." I started by farming "Destruction keys," with my Javazon, because with her I can run Nilathak in under a minute. I once farmed 17 D keys in a single afternoon. D keys are highly tradable so I would trade them at 5 D keys for 4 T keys, and I farm H keys almost as quickly with a Sorc build. I've traded a few times with Necrarch.
Here is an example of how quickly I can run Nihlathak.

Nice. On nonladder I'm gearing up a Nova sorc for the same purpose. But I also have lots of gear on mules so the budget smiter shield questions doesn't matter.
The original question was for early ladder when I don't have good gear yet.

Yes I gathered that you were discussing a ladder build which is why I stuck with HOZ as the shield choice. Since my last post I logged onto Bnet, and farmed an H Key with my sorc ( Chain Lightning build).RackAnewShoe wrote: 3 weeks agoNice. On nonladder I'm gearing up a Nova sorc for the same purpose.
