Description
The Willowisp is one of the most feared and reviled foes in Diablo 2, second in notoriety only to the Bone Fetish. Between their massive Lightning damage, piercing projectiles, mana draining attacks, rapid and erratic movements, and near invisibility while in motion, groups of these Undead can quickly overwhelm an unwary adventurer.

Probably the most annoying and perhaps dangerous creature in the game if you are caught off-guard. These things cast Lightning that always rolls high damage it seems. To make it worse these things can target and kill you from off screen. Be wary crossing the Great Marsh and Worldstone Keep, gangs of these spirits have been known to strike characters dead in an instant. Beware the strongest variants... Black Souls. Any character with low health or low resistances are especially susceptible to instant death from these powerful lightning casters. Only plus side, they are extremely fragile and easy to kill.
Ghost Busting (Hunting) Guide Touching on Fundamentals & Areas to Focus on
Ghosts ( Wraith, Willowisp and Finger Mage) have a higher chance to drop runes as other normal monsters in D2.
These already dangerous monsters are immune to freezing and Chill effects in Hell difficulty, making them even harder to pin down and engage.
From the Arreat Summit:
Willowisp use a Lightning attack, so equipping Lightning Resistance gear will help against them. Willowisp are almost invisible until they attack. You might be able to see traces of them as they move. They can be attacked while you cannot see them so lay down some area effect spells if possible. Willowisp attacks drain Mana.
There is an Easter egg with Willowisps/Souls in d2. If you kill all enemies except for 4-5 Willowisps within a radius of two screens, the Willowisps will stop attacking you after a while and instead shoot some letters. Once the ritual is completed you receive an invisible mf boost and the willowisps will attack you again:
There's one build that laughs about this otherwise deadly creatures and is even happy if they appear as guest monsters: Dragon/Hand of Justice Paladin.
Reason for this:
Reason for this:
- They havn't got much HP and usualy die (on low /players) to Holy Fire long before they can shoot, sometimes off-screen (watch out to not miss drops!)
- Double Dragon provides +10 max Lightning Resist
- Due to lack of alternatives or to beef up a Dream helmet, you often max Resist Lightning on that build, raising your Lightning Resist even further to 95%
Equipping Guardian Angel + Thundergod's Vigor will also enable you to laugh at these annoying f*cks.
