Description byCan be used to make Runewords:
OP
The Kuko was enough to take down Duriel on the first try and both my Merc and my Valc also survived it. Since the Reflex Bow is a rare and has two sockets it might be worth upgrading. The Hit causes monster to flee attribute is quite useful with mobs. An thoughts?
i couldn't stand the pixelated sprites and back then i used sven's Glide wrapper to make it run smoother and "as intended" with 3dfx being the top of the line back then.
voodoo 3 ftw.

I also had a Voodo Card. They only rendered in 3D and since Diablo 2 is a 2D game, Voodoo relied on a separate on system 2D card for display output, and that's what you were seeing. Then NVIDIA came along and ate them, and produced a better product.Skaijuice wrote: 5 months agoi couldn't stand the pixelated sprites and back then i used sven's Glide wrapper to make it run smoother and "as intended" with 3dfx being the top of the line back then.

I meant when D2 first dropped, it ran optimally on voodoo cards. If i do a /fps it will run very smoothly with lighting as high and perspective ON, and the display mode will indicate 'glide' at the top right.
Then 3dfx disappeared and nvidia with their geforces came into play...however the performance and graphics ran poorly...
i recalled using glide wrapper to change display mode from D3d to Glide again...never looked back.
Those were the days!

The original D2 resolution back then was something like 640X480, LOD 800X600, but since most of us at the time ran it on 15" to 17" CTTR monitors (U.S), both of those were acceptable resolutions back then. The resolution had to be low for online play data transmission because most of us were still using dial-up modem. My household had two phone lines so what we could run two modems in tandem for increased speeds,Skaijuice wrote: 5 months agoI meant when D2 first dropped, it ran optimally on voodoo cards. I still have my 3dfx Voodoo 5 5500 AGP system with D2 LoD
After a 20 year break from D2 I started playing D2R in 2024 with my sons (9 and 10 years old)
Time Zone: UTC/GMT +1/+2 (Germany)
Online workdays: casually from 07:00-09:00 pm
Online weekends: casually midday to evening
Non-Ladder | Softcore | Expansion

Another weapon upgrade find, but now I need more attack speed. I'm thinking maybe a Treachery? In case anyone is wondering it dropped in Nightmare River of Flames.
Back in the day this was top shelf. !

Yeah, I first had bought a GeForce 256 from Elsa and was completely disappointed of the image quality. Two days later I went back to the store and changed it into a 3dfx 5500. Best decision back then

Remember ATI also entered the video card market at about the same time. During that period I built so many computers I can' remember which went into what, but as I recall it ATI cards were noted for their image quality.oOKIWIOo wrote: 5 months agoYeah, I first had bought a GeForce 256 from Elsa and was completely disappointed of the image quality. Some thoughts on single player offline LOD 1.14d so far.
It brings back memories of when the first immunities were released, after we had all spent considerable time perfecting our builds only to have Blizzard poo poo on our efforts and make them nearly useless
Not all, but when most pack bosses die they emit a powerful expansive Frost Nova that can take you out, even the ones you can’t see that are off-screen.
Many of the really good runewords were Ladder patch 1.10 releases that were never made available to offline single players. The Ladder 1.10 runewords are some of the best ruenwords in the game including Diablo 2 Resurrected. They include Faith, Fortitude, Grief, Harmony, Infinity, Insight, Last Wish, and Phoenix.
I have another set of keys from the old days for classic pre-LOD Diablo 2, and I’m thinking of trying a second install but this time I’ll see if I can get on Battlenet, and if so then I can play the classic version all the way through and then purchase an LOD upgrade to get all the runewords. My laptop won’t play (haven’t tried it but I don’t think it will) D2r but it plays the classic version just fine.

Since there is mention of 1.1 runewords...thought i take this opportunity to once again give a Shout-out to then DEV Peter Hu ...that was his baby, when he remained behind and solo'ed the patch and then finally contented decided to leave and join the rest of his colleagues during the mass-exodus from BlizzNorth, joining flagship studios.
This is the kind of integrity that idk if still exist in today's MTX first gaming industry.

Playing D2 classic these days can still be a lot of fun. I still have my 1.14d copy installed alongside D2R. I play LAN with my son sometimes.
Not having Insight runeword sucks, but it also forces you to be a bit more creative.
I am playing with a Tesladin, hard points on Holy Shock and everything! It's obviously a great build for Normal and Nightmare, but I might need to respec in Hell.

Before D2R, I only really ever played D2/LoD offline (and over TCP/IP with friends). I thought the fact that some rune words were ladder-only and not available offline was unfair so I learned how to unpack MPQ files, edit the rune words to enable them offline, and re-pack the MPQ again (so I could share it with my friends). In the txt file that defines the rune words it's basically just a flag that turns them on/off for offline play, so it was a really simple edit (compared to the task of unpacking/repacking MPQ files). It was the only modification I made, didn't really care about anything else (like directly editing/hacking items/characters, that doesn't interest me at all). I remember I had to redo this every time there was a new patch.
I'm in CET (Central European Time), so that's UTC+1 normally and UTC+2 during DST.
My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.
My profile says Softcore, but I play both Softcore and Hardcore.
My Holy Grail Tracker is for Offline Hardcore.

That's definitely fair play and use of the offline files, even if it involves a bit of hacking.ShadowHeart wrote: 4 months agoBefore D2R, I only really ever played D2/LoD offline (and over TCP/IP with friends). I understand they wanted to get people more interested in the online part of the game, but feels a bit odd to punish offline players. I still think that Cure and Hustle shouldn't be Ladder only in D2R.

I've considered it, and it might come to that, but for now just call me a stubborn glutton for pain.ShadowHeart wrote: 4 months agoBefore D2R, I only really ever played D2/LoD offline (and over TCP/IP with friends). the burrito cannon does not need a lot more ias to reach very good speeds
OP
A lot of things that we've come to take for granted in D2r weren't there back in LOD 1.14d. For instance Strafe doesn't get the 5% synergy bonus from Multiple Shot and the 10% bonus from Guided Arrow. The highest rune drop I've had is a Lem from the River of Flame in Nightmare. I did get a Kuko, Lysander's, and the Buriza (all nightmare drops). So far my nightmare drops are out shinning my Hell level drops.krathkor wrote: 4 months agothe burrito cannon does not need a lot more ias to reach very good speeds

Many of you will recall there was a time when Mephispto seemed to drop a unique or set item more often than not, and that made him the go to one stop shop for gearing up for the next level. Earlier today I decided to try and do a little legacy Meph farming and the slide show is the result. The items in the slide show are by no means all of the items found, and two are from Andy, but for less than two hours that's still a lot of unique and set drops. Andariel's next!
OP
The game is getting little on the weird side. In the three years I played D2R I never found a single Zod rune, but in offline play I just found one in Hell lvl Pit. I can't do anything with it but I have one, and if I find a decent base pole-arm I will make a BOTD for my merc. Fortunately the BOTD runeword is available in Non Ladder. I've already sold my Sol to resurrect my Merc, and it's time for him to earn his keep.
