Does anyone have any recent experience on getting D2R to run on a Mac with an M1 chip? Most of what I can find is a couple of years old with questionable stability.
I know Macbooks are not designed for gaming. I've got a desktop PC for that. My laptop is a Mac and my goal is to trade with people when I'm away from my house.
Thanks in advance

I suggest what I use which is NVidia GeForce Now, a game streaming app which is free of charge with some limitations i.e. you need to queue to get a virtual machine, usually takes 2-3min, and gaming sessions are limited to 1 hour, after that you'll have to login again, for D2R I feel this is not a huge deal. Works great for me and if you want to upgrade (I think at 9.99/month or something like that) you remove these limitations. Also, potentially you can play any AAA game they host with high settings.
I'm willing to accept other forms of currency. Like Tokens, Keys, Perfect Gems, and certain minor runes in lieu of my asking price. I'm also willing to accept rune combinations that add up to my asking price.
Not exactly what you asked for, but you could always use some remote desktop technology to remote into your PC from the laptop rather than running D2R directly on the laptop.
You need a stable Internet connection anyway
(just higher bandwidth requirement for remote desktop)

My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.
My profile says Softcore, but I play both Softcore and Hardcore.
My Holy Grail Tracker is for Offline Hardcore.

It looks like there are multiple solutions for your need.
First one is to use virtual machine running Windows then installation D2R : https://mac.getutm.app/gallery/windows-11-arm
Another one is you use Nintendo switch emulator to run D2R : https://ryujinx.app/
There is also that solution to run Windows programs on MacOS : https://www.codeweavers.com/crossover
You can also give a try with playonmac, but it looks like there is no official support for that game : https://www.playonmac.com/en/supported_apps-1-0.html
No matter the solution, it’s going to take you some time to make it working.

Thanks for the pointers! Unfortunately UTM is designed for Macs running an ARM (Intel) chip set, mine uses the M1 (Apple). and Crossover is too expensive for what I'm trying to do. Ryujinx looks promising and has good reviews. I wonder if I'd have to buy D2R for Switch though. This one is definitely worth looking into.Tornado_OLO wrote: 4 months agoIt looks like there are multiple solutions for your need.

I discourage you from doing remote desktop.
If you're not at home, you will have to modify your router and it may lead to security issues.
Doing NAT/PAT to redirect your external connection to your computer may expose it to hackers scanning these kind of practices.
You will also need a professional Windows edition to have remote desktop enable on your computer.

There are third party remote desktop solutions that don't require opening any firewalls or routers. I haven't a list for you but I know of several. The idea is you have a program installed on your PC to act as an agent on the inside, and the remote desktop connection is made via third party servers. A well known one would be TeamViewer, but I wouldn't recommend that one in particular due to the massive security breach they suffered somewhat recently.

Hey man, this totally worked! The latency is a bit choppy (due to my own connection when away from the house) but this is more than acceptable to accomplish a few trades, which is all I want anyways. The delay to get assigned a VM is slightly annoying but for a free service I really can't complain. Thanks for recommending this!cynical_platypus wrote: 4 months agoI suggest what I use which is NVidia GeForce Now, a game streaming app which is free of Charge with some limitations i.e. you need to queue to get a virtual machine, usually takes 2-3min, and gaming sessions are limited to 1 hour, after that you'll have to login again, for D2R I feel this is not a huge deal. It definitely works on M1, but I don't need to complete trades badly enough to fork over $74 haahakrathkor wrote: 4 months agocrossover works with intel macs (mine eg), and the website says M1 works too...

I'm glad you called that one out, I was about to download it lol. I'm going to keep researching. I can't fully set up a remote desktop service since I'm currently away.ShadowHeart wrote: 4 months agoThere are third party remote desktop solutions that don't require opening any firewalls or routers. You're playing on xbox/pc so you may have the answer.
Have you paid for a second game ?

I started the process. I do need to purchase the game on switch, and I'd need to perform a jailbreak on the switch to download the prod.keys file and dump it into the Ryujinx emulator.Tornado_OLO wrote: 4 months agoYou're playing on xbox/pc so you may have the answer.

I wouldn't mind buying a 3rd copy of the game. It goes on sale every once in a while. But the main issue is I don't own a switch.Tornado_OLO wrote: 4 months agoCrap. Honestly, if you're ready to pay for a third D2R, you better have to go for crossover if it able you to play smoothly on MacOS.Knappogue wrote: 4 months agoI wouldn't mind buying a 3rd copy of the game. It goes on sale every once in a while.
Look at that video where he has a promo code :
You can have a 20% off with the promo code TOM23
Edit : before paying , and to be sure it works, give a try with the free trial.

This is similar to the issue I have where I would like to trade with people on PC because the market/trading community is better but I dont own a PC lolKnappogue wrote: 4 months agoI wouldn't mind buying a 3rd copy of the game.
