I am contemplating just getting every little bit of damage or survivability from items, so I was wondering what your opinion is about Eth Fortitude vs. Eth Chains of Honor for an Act 2 mercenary using an etheral Reaper's Toll and an etheral Vampire Gaze.
Can be used to make Runewords:

"Every man dies, not every man really lives."
Fortitude, by far. it provides all res also. In late game will be enough to marc achieve 75 all res. You already have two physical damage reductions sources.
Vampire Gaze and when procs decripify.
Vampire Gaze and when procs decripify.
Fortitude
The most common set up for Act 2 mercenary is: Fortitude + Andariel's Visage + Infinity
The Chilling Armor trigger increase his defense a lot too.

I guess I should have been a bit more specific. I am playing a tesladin with my own Conviction.fredkid wrote: 7 months agoFortitude

In this case the merc gear doesn't make much difference. A dreamer paladin destroys everything. Still, a Fortitude is, by far the best armor for mercs.Dnasty225 wrote: 7 months agoI guess I should have been a bit more specific. Fortitude + Andariel's Visage + The Reaper's Toll
(in the cases of where Decrepify is better than Conviction
another common setup is
Fortitude + Cure + Insight (and Merc using Prayer aura), for triple Healing ( Prayer + Meditation and Cleansing synergies)

Yeah, Cure is so expensive on Non ladder, but I may try and give that a go with my smiter for the Lilith fights, especially.fredkid wrote: 7 months agoFortitude + Andariel's Visage + The Reaper's Toll

Treachery is as strong as Fortitude but way less expensive.
Will grant merc IAS + Fade.
More IAS = more damage = more survavibility.
And Fade increase survavibility a lot.
CoH is mainly used for Ubers. For char and for mercenary.

It sucks to deal with single-digit percentage procs though. I have Treachery on all three of my level 98 Act 2 mercs, but trying to get Fade to proc is ridiculous sometimes. I was soloing Chaos Sanctuary yesterday before the TZ hour, and I intentionally left Emilio to his own devices so he could get hit to proc Fade. It never did for two runs in a row and instead he died 3-4 times to p1 trash in the River of Flame and Chaos Sanctuary because I was too slow to feed him a full rejuv. It's even worse in Travincal against the council.
For my next character, I'm making an ethereal Fortitude for that Act 2 merc because having that merc stay alive is more critical to the build than it was to the three characters I've already built.

What kind of base are you looking for in Fortitude?Snakecharmed wrote: 7 months agoIt sucks to deal with single-digit percentage procs though. Chains of Honor is mostly used on a merc if you need a source of life leech on the chest, or you need to overcap res
This is Grief tesladin? If so, then you mostly just want your merc to stay alive and proc Decrepify. If he also kills something, that's great, but that's not his main job in my opinion
Fort is nice for survival because it has res and damage (=more life leech). But even Treachery is good enough and might proc Decrepify a bit more on average. But the Fade is not reliable, especially if you do short runs

It's probably going into what I have on hand right now, which is either an 880 def ethereal 12% ED superior Kraken Shell (working out to 2467 def) or 887 def ethereal 6% ED superior Shadow Plate (2576 def, but its higher strength requirement significantly delays when I can give it to the merc, and it's also heavyweight armor).
I could trade for something better, but since I'm not going to re-roll this Fortitude like I did for my own to get 1.5 HP/level and minimum 27@, I don't care that much when the only thing of value being spent here will be a single Lo. Otherwise, I'd need to spend multiple Jah and this idiot merc isn't worth that to me.
On the other hand, both Fortitude armors that I've made for my own use have gone into a 15% ED superior Archon Plate.
