Hi

Looking at some guides, where the build has a lot of off-hand %ed, I started to think that maybe a
Vermilion Jewel of Fervor 15 max 15 ias
could be better than a
Ruby Jewel of Fervor 40% ed 15 ias
in some cases
πŸ€”πŸ€”
(or at leas close to it, while being cheaper πŸ€”)

I took an example, the "Standard" Strafezon from maxroll
https://maxroll.gg/d2/guides/strafe-amazon
https://maxroll.gg/d2/d2planner/0w0106ph#1

Replacing her two jewels in the head (2 x 40% ed -> 2 X 15 max), increased her overall damage
Strafe

Damage per Second: 74,505
->
Damage per Second: 76,105 (~+2%)

An this is a build that has 7 sharp grand charms (70 max) which at first would pull towards Ruby Jewel's side πŸ€”πŸ€”

But I don't see much talk about Vermilion Jewel of Fervor... (at least not as much as I see about Ruby Jewel of Fervor...) πŸ€”πŸ€”

For a while: not accepting

There are number of instances where a 15/15 will outperform a 40/15 - with the physical bowzon being the most common (but not always the) case.

Scenarios where a weapon has a very high damage, like a druid or barbarian holding a 2-H weapon as the greatest example, a 40/15 will out perform. 40ed is a percentage increase so the higher the base damage the weapon has, the larger of an impact it will have. A 40ed will also increase the min damage narrowing the damage spread. Whereas 15 Max is an integer increase and only impact the max damage.

15/15s are often overlooked as viable 40/15 competitors, which is fine by me since they are MUCH CHEAPER than 40/15s.

Edit: For clarity my post is referring to the jewel affixes OP asked about - 40ed/15IAS and 15max/15IAS

I am permanently no longer accepting

Thul

Don't know if the bug is still present but note a 15 max dmg jewel in
Helm
isn't working.

My timezone is CET/UTC+1.

What bug?
The bugI know happens when the jewel and the item socketed have both max/min and %ed, which was not the case of a
Giant Skull
and a vermilion jewel of fervor.

Yup, was talking about 40/15max.

A 40/15 max is a Ruby Jewel of Carnage. It's not relevant here because it's assumed that the IAS should remain the same for this comparison between extra ED vs. extra max damage.

I also worked out the same calculations and reached the same conclusion when I was min-maxing my bowazon's DPS.
