Enigma finally! seeking advise before socking

Hi guys,

Day is finally here got last piece of the puzzle, Ber rune to complete Enigma rune word.
Jah Ith Ber

Was initially aiming for Archon Plate, but I've been holding on to this drop for more than 2 weeks....
Check stats below:
Superior Wymnhide def 518
It's pretty comparable to a Archon Plate right?

Lastly (getting nervous), it's safe to socket Enigma on this gray color Wymnhide armor right?
(Just started playing D2R in Jan, barely 4 weeks into the game)

But as I said, in Principle your Wyrmhide surely is a good base

I only mention since you've only played 4 weeks - repair costs for superior armor cost way more than normal armor repair costs. Rals + cube can alleviate this, but just wanted to put that out there. It's not too big a deal overall though.

It can be a big deal if you have a habit of mindlesssly clicking the "repair all" button at the blacksmith vendor. Whoosh, and your entire personal stash of Gold is suddenly empty. Wait, where did all my Gold go? HELP! I have been robbed!

Of course it is Any body armor with 3 sockets will work. Just not if they have 4 sockets, that would leave one socket empty - the rune word must exactly fill all the sockets of the item.

I can't keep the excitement. Went ahead and socket them.

Teleport is fun! Now I know why sorc farm so fast! I used to use Teleport staff, then Teleport amulet.... but it's so slow because I look and check carefully the surrounding before doing the next jump. And besides, it seems 1) die quite often using staff as there's no shield 2) using amulet because of concern of charges left, action is also bit slow and reactive. BUT Teleport using mana is whole different ball game!

P.S. I kinda regret socketing using superior base now.... it's like 35K per 1/27 durability repair. Not breaking the bank as I've accumulated almost 10M Gold (quite easily I might add cos I've 2 Gheed). Have traded the 39% MF to a friend for Ber which allowed me to have Enigma . Thanks again my friend!

Wyrmhide is an excelent base, has good defense status and still low STR requirement. I planning doing mine in a 458 defense Dusk Shroud.

If you are not a melee char, you almost certainly wil drop a random Ral rune before need to repair your superior armor
(My javazon have a Dusk Shroud superior - only 22 durability - and have no problem repairing with random Ral - keep always two on shared for repair)

If you don't plan on selling it, I really don't think base has much of an impact.
IMO something that gets you to save tons of stat points is the best. Everything else is just ocd stuff.

Don't forget that you can mitigate repair costs on superior items as mentioned above with the Horadric Cube recipe, Ral rune + Armor -> repaired armor

on paper Ral is cheaper than Gold to repair if your repair is > 500-833K

I didn’t know that
10M Gold == Ist
12 - 20 Ral == Ist

My gear seems to have more Gold bonus in addition to Gheed’s 150+% xtra Gold. I haven’t checked really as I always get to 10M pretty quickly (~2, 3 days). Always gamble away on crowns…. Used to gamble for amulet (hoping for a Teleport).

Oh ya, I do pick up orbs/ Wand/helms to sell. They’re pretty easy cash

Mage Plate makes most sense. It is light weight and has Max 3 Sockets. So Enigma fits perfectly. With torch and Annihilus you can start right at dex. Strength is upped to ca. 140. So a Monarch Shield is another option.

Btw: Feel free to ask around in trade section for items. Theres nothing wrong with it.

Well for Enigma there are different variations possible and good.
I am using a Full Plate Mail for my Barbarian.
just because it is heavy.

You can mitigate the costs with 2 items:
- Gheed's Fortune up to 15% discout
- 3os bow with runeword Edge 15% discount
(pick bow with low requirements such as Hunter's Bow)

That's up to 30% discount. Helps...

Regarding Teleport Amulet or Circlet I would only use them for PvP. 28 Charges dont Last a chaosrun and repair costs are bad. Also in PvP a Necro for example casts 70 BoneSpirits and you must defend yourself which doesn't work without Enigma. Assassin is bit better because of DragonsFlight. And sorceress is free to wear Skin of the Viper Magi or Ormus' Robes or Jeweler's of the Whale etc.
