I made myself an account and posted my first trade. Then I received an offer via private message, but I'm unable to respond to that person in any way. I can't find any option send messages to anyone from my post or their profile. Can someone help me?

To reply a Message try:
<Profile Menu> -> Messages

Hmm, it may be possible that this option has been removed for players with less than 5 trusts in trades, as they were some spammers using it...

I've made an adjustment to permissions, hopefully you can see the Message button now on their profile.
