Is there a way to do this? I’m not trying to cheat, rather avoid it. I purchased an Unid’d torch. Major expense for me at the moment. It was a lemon. Could easily be coincidence. Or…
It seems likely that there would be a way to do this and the groups and ppl who make a living off bottling and hacking this game or even small timers with the means would employ this.
Unless someone has some very compelling evidence regarding the impenetrable integrity of d2r anti-cheating measures, I think I’ll take the sure bets from now on.

Coincidence; there's no way to do that.
The way those people make profit is by the volumes of torches they can sell; not just selling the bad ones and IDing better ones

Hmmm, not convinced. By chance Do you sell unid’d torches ;p
Idk know much about it. But I’d think the money is in the highest quality torches/items. If it’s about volume then they’d put all types structures in place to make that process efficient, ie selling bad torches for more keys to get more torches. That’s quicker than organizing 10 bots to do however many Key runs right? I guess it depends on so many factors and unless someone here is in that business and willing to share, idt we can figure all of them out.
Im not convinced by lack of profit argument. But if there is something in the coding of the game that makes this 100 percent bitcoin encryption sound, then ok, I’m completely ignorant about this sort of thing and would enjoy some education around it if it’s obviously impossible to do. I’d love to be convinced of the integrity of the game and keep gambling on torches.. but, I’m suspicious and I think reasonably so. It was a lemon dammit!

I used to sell unid torches. Sold probably 50 of them. I tried to ask the buyer what the stats were (they didn't always respond). But they seemed to be evenly distributed. Never sold a 20/20 (that I'm aware of) but definitely sold a 20/19 and an 18/20. However, over the long run, selling unid torches I made more $$$ than if I had ID'd them and sold. I never knew of a way to find out the rolls prior to. That would be a game breaking mechanic if it existed.
apparently long long long ago you could "roll back" to an earlier server side save, making the idem unidentified ...
Short answer:
Yes, this is still possible (or at least was until recently..most likely still is).
Long answer:
No long answer! I certainly won't be the one causing those methods to become public knowledge again and annihilating trading like in the olden days...f that!
The good thing is that these days, hardly anyone actually knows how to do it (or so it seems at least) which is why random trades for say an UNID torch or the like tend to still occasionally yield the random GG sorc or pally torch. Just...you know...steer clear of them folks selling you 50-packs of UNID griffon's as those repeatedly come with far below average rolls for a reason.

If I choose to buy this way again, researching the seller is good advice for avoiding the chance of this happening, assuming it still is occurring.

It seems profitable.. if you get momentum going with enough torch exchange you could run ubes all day. Dang if there’s enough demand you would get rich really fast. Hmm, i made the wrong character and now I’m the chump working hard to make someone else rich hahaKnappogue wrote: 9 months ago I used to sell unid torches. Sold probably 50 of them. I play mainly on xbox where the market is really different. I can buy a 3x3 Key set for a Lo, and then sell the unid torch for a Jah. 3x Lo = Jah on xbox. However I stopped once it because too time consuming to sell the torches. I did probably make about 30 Jah profit in the venture.Rik wrote: 9 months agoIt seems profitable.. if you get momentum going with enough torch exchange you could run ubes all day. Y do people buy un I’d torches for so much? There’s like a 1/500 chance it’ll be a halfway decent one, even if you were looking for a specific class that’s still 1/7.
I’m still gunna stick to ssf, 2 seasons ago (at least) stuff was still going POOF because they were duped. I remember years ago working for weeks to trade for a Ber or soj or cta only to have it straight up disappear on me
Sorry you got a lemon, that sux. I had to farm like 20 torches before i found my first assassin one

I asked my repeat customers this. Every single one of them had the same answer "addicted to gambling".Nate2.0 wrote: 9 months ago Y do people buy un I’d torches for so much? There’s like a 1/500 chance it’ll be a halfway decent one, even if you were looking for a specific class that’s still 1/7.

I think the fact we’re all still playing this game after all these years says the same thing about most is us. Certainly I am. Better than going to the casino I’d say

That’s wild profit. With a good smiter I’m assuming you could run all Ubers in like 15 mins. I’m unfamiliar with non ladder pricing but presumably triplling your original investment in about 25 mins depending on the time costs of organizing purchase and sale is ridiculous.
It sounds like eventually the market got maxed but presumably you could hit it up again once ppl restocked their jahs, or drop cost down to a Ber for a mere doubling of initial investment every 30 mins lol.
I only planned on making two chars this season, but the longer this thread goes, the more I think I need an Uber pally.
OP
Appreciate it bro. I managed to turn it and get roughly 40 percent of my original investment back. Doesn’t sound like it, but it was a pretty good compromise considering its qualityNate2.0 wrote: 9 months ago

The xbox community is really small. The keysets do go for a Lo, and the UNID torches do go for a Jah, still to this day. It's not the running of the Ubers that takes the time. Its sitting in trade games for hours waiting for someone to show-up. It's not that people don't want to trade, it's just that there aren't that many people. But I can't complain, I work from home so sitting in a trade game is pretty easy. I got bored of doing it, so I stopped. I'm sitting on roughly 65 Jah so I have enough to buy what I need.Rik wrote: 9 months ago That’s wild profit. With a good smiter I’m assuming you could run all Ubers in like 15 mins. +1, making a pally was one of the best choices I made in this game. A good torch farmer is pretty sweet. My issue is how long it takes to sell the extra torches. Even after giving many away, I have over 70 torches sitting in my bank taking up room.Rik wrote: 9 months ago I only planned on making two chars this season, but the longer this thread goes, the more I think I need an Uber pally.

Presumably non ladder? 70 is crazy high and I’ve noticed after a few seasons that stash space becomes increasingly important. It would be an awkward exchange due to one torch per personal stash, but perhaps you could Attract a high roller by offer multiples at a discount.azeroti wrote: 9 months ago+1, making a pally was one of the best choices I made in this game. Getting into it in ladder start could be an early money train. The demand should sustain and the early price of entry would be like a few Ohm to get the momentum aka, selling 3 unid’d torches for 4 keys each or rune equivalent, which would take some time but early pally can easily start as a killer farmer build before partially or completely evolving into a smiter.
I think I’ll make one the next free weekend I have and see what I can earn with him with a delayed entry but decent inheritance. Between him and my Key runner, I will own means of production and services. Instead of being ripped off by the middleman, I instead become him ha. Monopoly. Except for all the bots doing it better, constantly and in legions 🫤
But whatever, I love this game way too much already, no cheats would make my Obsession even more pathological.
Yes, non-ladder. I eventually (when the game was on sale) created a new account to store all my extras and goodies for sale and use my main account just for my characters.

I finally entered the game. I could have done it sooner but I over prepared, better than the alternative. I cleared two sets of Ubers last night and sold both unid torches for a good profit. Granted much lower pricing than what non-ladder is going for. Honestly, the pricing of everything this ladder has been confusing me.Knappogue wrote: 9 months agoThe xbox community is really small. It was hard for me not to ID the torches and when I sold them, I felt bad when the buyer told me about the rolls, neither were good.. I’m a free will kind of guy, but I do question the morality of taking advantage of peoples more base impulses for a buck. Granted they could jackpot but my quick run of the numbers assures me it’s a very bad investment, mos def now that basic sorc torches have dropped in value so much. It’s funny, trading in d2r over the course of the last year or so has challenged my sense of morality numerous times yet I keep on pushing the limit

That's awesome man, what did you sell them for? Did you buy or farm keys? I've never played ladder so that market is foreign to me.Rik wrote: 9 months ago I finally entered the game. Watch-out for cain....I was trying to sell a torch (saw a 3x3 Keyset selling for a Vex - couldn't help myself and bought it). Did an MF run while waiting in game...went to cain to ID my loot. Boom ID'd the torch....lol
