Description

Three elements for the sorceresses, the casters under the sky
Barbarians find riches from dead, now as cold as Stone
Holy paladins will combat evil, wherever it may lie
A necromancer explodes a corpse, a skill widely known
Assassins and Druids though brave, are often doomed to die
One build to rule them all … one build to find them
One build to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them!
In the land of Sanctuary where the shadows lie…

Yea sorry, got super nerdy there. So after doing some unsuccessful targeted farming in trav (well not unsuccessful, just really boring) I went back to my general farmer builds for a bit, my hammerdin and javazon. Both are good in their own right, but each still has its own compromises. Which leads me to ask, is there one build that truly has no compromises? Is it even possible?

Here’s the factors I think that always need to be balanced, or you compromise on something for the sake of the build.
-Damage potency and diversity (must be able to handle immunities and higher players settings, kill speed)
-mobility (frw and or
Teleport
)
-magic find (200-300 should be fine)
-safety (don’t want to die)
-ease of play (if it takes more than 3 different skills to kill most things … ain’t nobody got time for that)
-gear requirements (the gear should be attainable, deaths web might as well not even exist for me)
*bonus criteria* fun to play (sorry pindle zerker - your out! Bowazon your back in!)

So far, from what I’ve played I think the javazon, fohdin, lightning sorc (basically anything lightning based thx to Infinity) may be the only builds that hit all these and don’t compromise on anything. Sorry I’m an offline console player, so I got no sunder charms yet. I’m now hoping they’ll become a thing for us offline players when ladder resets, then maybe I could run a fire (or anything non lightning) based build that’s not a hybrid enchantress.

I really tried to make melee builds work, but they just don’t clear as fast as a lightning caster - with the exception of a physical bowazon, but then she needs to compromise on mf compared to the lightning casters.

Anyways are there any other builds meeting the above criteria I missed or you would recommend me try out?

Thanks

Trapsins. Done.

If you scratch the 'gear requirements' bit and allow for Infinity, they also handle dclone just fine.

Simple (even simpler with sunders). Super safe. Can farm literally anything at solid speed. Can stack 400+ magic find without sacrificing anything. A point in
Dragon Flight
allows for many a shortcut even without having Enigma/
Teleport
.

The only exception is ubers. Once you consider those, you're making things a lot harder since while many builds can certainly handle them, they normally don't do so in MF gear. So you're looking at gear swaps and/or hybrid builds pretty much across the board.

Long story short...there's a reason my first farmer in D2:R was a trapsin. :)

Cool. I’ll try them, assassin is the last character I haven’t beaten the game with. I was always sceptical of the traps, facets and other -en resistances don’t work for them right?

I do have an Infinity, so should be able to break lightning immunes.

Correct, facets and the like don't do it for traps.

Without a sunder, Infinity is more for dmg boost rather than dealing with immunes. For that, it is massive as it is the only -res you really get as a trapsin (unless you bring lower res from somewhere).
On immunes, it leaves you at still utterly pathetic dmg as they end up with like 98% res left or the like. For light immunes,
Fire Blast
is your bestest friend.

If/when you do get a sunder though..you get all immunes to 78% left for a trapsin with Infinity which is enough to just rely on your normal traps and not need to deal with fireblast. Personally, I don't even include fireblast in my post-sunder build anymore which opens up a whole lot of fun stuff because you have a stupid amount of skill points left.

Cool, cool, I’ll start leveling my assassin. She’s currently at lvl 21, so a ways to go. I’m assuming nothing crazy rare for her gear?

These are going to be some big shoes to fill. I ran both the hammerdin and javazon through cows and most level 85 areas and the javazon ended up with faster, and easier clear speed (she also found an
Ohm
and
Mal
in the same run, so maybe biased). I don’t have a dedicated fohdin, so I may make one as well for the sake of comparison purposes.

With all my separate characters it takes me a while to fully gear them out now before a session - get Infinity from X, anni from Y, cta from Z, it took me a good 20 mins yesterday to find my spare soj. Annoying but still better than back in the days before the shared stash.

Other option, but probably not as quick is Bone necro. With almost no magic immune (and for the few others, your merc / summons + amp damage does well for you) you can farm absolutely everywhere.

9 points in summoning tab (all but useless
Fire Golem
) used as one point wonders make it very safe, 4 points in curses till Decrep to get that one AND Amp, all the rest in
Bone Spear
and Synergies.

As for gear, either you go max block (Homunc with
Um
) or max vit (Spirit), HotO, Enigma in
Mage Plate
for mobility, 2/20
Circlet
with PTopaz, FCR / res rings + same for Amu, Arach or 10 FCR
Caster Belt
, Trang Gloves, and a few skillers.

You should need 0 to 10 STR, 0 Energy, Dex only if you go Max Block (that's my path) and rest in Vit or full Vit (if Spirit).

Nothing very original but works just fine and safe if you reach 125 FCR and can do DClone easy with Urdars. Ubers are slightly more tricky but if you get 300 Light res you can do the same Urdars Trick, though much more touchy.

Have I precised this is my main guy ? :)

Yea I built a Bone necro, it’s good, but still not quite as fast as my javazon. Definitely has its place, no one better for
Arcane Sanctuary
or maggot layer runs.

I just forgot I don’t have an assassin torch, the only character I don’t have one of… looks like imma need to farm some keys
