Description

unfortunately i don't have specific suggestions on how to improve visibility of trades, but i'm leaning towards the idea that "bump all trades" should be disabled.
it would be an unpopular change, but the reality is that right now with traffic in the site as high as it is, trying to browse through recent listings without specifically activating filters is a nightmare.

you can't browse page 2 of the trades list without seeing the trades you just saw on page 1. as someone who sells items myself, i also find that often times i will bump all my trades and after literally only 1 minute has passed, my trades are on page 30.

the alternative to removing bump all trades would have to be a design revamp of the site entirely, separating new listings to updated listings, or listings that are being actively bidded on etc.
it's much more work than removing a button and at the expense of some quality of life you get better visibility of higher quality listings because the sellers are manually bumping trades that they are desperate to sell. honestly right now due to the easy bumps there's quite frankly a lot of junk out there that just take up space and make the browsing experience terrible (i'm guilty of this myself to be fair).

i don't know if there are any overall design changes planned or whether this browsing experience has been uncomfortable only for me, but personally, while i would like to just sit around and browse through recent listings to see what random items are going for, currently it's just too tedious and so i find myself only using the site to update my own listings or to search for a very specific item i want.

As I see it - filters and navigation seems okay for a customer who is perfectly aware about what he is offerin, and what he is seekin on the market. A proper specification of wares needed/offered solves most of the troubles - but this is a concern of customer, not developer. I personally have no problems browsin through stock, neither gettin an attention in case I offer something of interest for another person. Perhaps you do/expect something... different? Just mine 5 cents here.

The whole idea of the 'bump all' button came from feedback in this very forum because people didn't want to manually bump each of their 50 or so trades. This has been an extremely popular feature and QoL improvement for traders so it's not going anywhere.

Remember, bumping your trades doesn't just raise them to the top of the landing page (which is just a landing page at /trade), it raises them to the top of any searches or filters for anything related to that item.

From analytics data I can see that active users of the site do not even attempt to look for trades in the way you are suggesting - looking through the entire market page by page is simply not the way to do things here, and no justification nor solution for removing the bump all trades button. What people have requested, which is fair and reasonable, is the ability to filter without the use of keywords, which would make 'browsing' easier, and is something I'm already working on achieving.

Well what can I do about competition - ask people not to trade here? The site has deep searching functionality with a vast array of options, filters, and methods of finding items. These options are there to help you sift through the entire market as you please.

People who are desperate to sell things typically use the bump all trades, but also will still manually bump their trades during peak times, which is something we permit. I don't think people have a lack of tools available to them for listing and creating trades, or maintaining their visibility right now...

I think you need to familiarise yourself better with how the search works - take a proper look, hover over each button and read the guidance. If you're not using the site as intended/instructed, then of course you're going to end up with a sub-par experience.

OP
so basically your intention is for the site to be used primarily around search functions, rather than 'general' browsing. thats completely fine; i was making a suggestion for the apparently niche case scenario where people might want to browse through trades unfiltered in a more effective manner.
the current main trade page is a mess and there's no way to sugarcoat that. i mean you may as well just put the search page as the main page then but you didn't. i assumed you wanted people to browse the current "recent trades" list since you've made it your default trading page, and therefore i made a suggestion. you could either take the suggestion on board or just simply say it's not the direction you're looking to take the site, instead of responding in a condescending manner like a dick. i know exactly how the site works and what functions are available, yet i thought there was room for improvement and that given there's a dedicated feedback sub-forum, you might actually want some feedback.

No, that's not my intention at all - see below from my first reply:

So you'd be able to browse and filter within that browsing selection with the above functionality ^ It's not a niche use case, and has been asked for many times before in this subforum. It's being worked on.

Saying something is a 'mess' isn't really helpful feedback for me.

If you had mentioned this in your original post then perhaps I would have been able to address it as I am doing now: the /trade page is a landing page, or a portal of sorts. From that central location you can easily begin a search, browse, access the price check tool, and so on so forth. It is not intended to be used as the main medium for finding trades or browsing them, that is what the linked sections are for.

I respond to all feedback, whether negative or positive, and you'll note that over half of the topics started in this subforum I have actually been able to develop into live site features. That doesn't mean that every single one is going to be something I want to do, and sometimes I have to say 'no', as is the case today - at least for the criticism you make about the bump all feature.

What I'm taking from this conversation is that you think the landing page for the trade section is misleading, and that people think that the intended behaviour is to use the latest 10 listings section at the bottom of that page rather than the other features. I can do something to improve that somewhat, to make it more obvious that it's more efficient to search for trades with the intended tools.

I don't mean to sound condescending but there are very clear notices shown to users before they make feedback topics asking them to read the v1.0 patch notes and other topics before making suggestions, so that they are fully aware of what functionality the site has already before bringing new ideas to the table.
