Where dropping the shield completely in the early game is preferred by speedrunners (faster to get hit than it is to animate the shield blocking), finding an Umbral Disk would perhaps make it worthwhile carrying one due to its favourable stats so early.

The bonus to block chance and Dexterity means keeping up max block on this shield doesn't require a lot of Dexterity investment early on.
Add to this the extra life/defense and especially the ability to blind everything you hit, and you have a very good starting shield for any Hardcore build.
