No, but some may compare me to a literatural genius/bot.

The game exists for 29 Years and the Balrog from Lotr exists since the first movie. There is even a Mod that existed before the movies made in Diablo 1. V&K Middle Earth Mod. The Dark Lord is the mutation of a human body turning out to be the devil.

Ok, since you trigger me with your cryptic prompt.

Short answer: no, Diablo and a Balrog are very different.

First, obviously they are from two different fantasy worlds. The lord of the rings is part of the middle earth mythology, which was created by JRR Tolkien almost 100 years ago. Diablo franchise was created by Blizzard some 25-30 years ago. Both are inspired by prior mythology, religion, fiction and legends though.

Now to compare the characters in question.
Diablo is the emdodiment of Evil itself, he was born evil and there is no other aspect in his essence other than evil and

Terror, which is his element. Although not the only arch demon, he can easily be considered the Prime. A Balrog on the other hand is a corrupted Maiar, servant of Melkor a.k.a. Morgoth, who is a Vallar (God). The latter is the ultimate Evil in Middle-earth world, therefore if anything, you should be comparing Diablo to Melkor/Morgoth. And both of them are akin to the byblical Devil, i.e. the first

Fallen Angel and the first Evil. Similarly to the Devil however, Melkor started good and later turned evil. He was equally if not most responsible for the creation of the world, when he and the other Vallar sang it into existence, it is mentioned in the very first lines of Silmarillion that his voice was the strongest. However, due to him being slightly superior to his fellow Vallars, he became proud and envious and ultimately went down a path of evil and corruption, which culminated in him declaring war on his brethern in order to seize the world for himsdelf.

Evil doesnt come naturally in Tolkien's mythology. Corruption there comes always driven by Pride, greed, envy, desire for power, it is a recurring theme.

Diablo also corrupts people, but does that forcibly, by tormenting them rather than tempting them. Best you could see it in Dialbo 2, where you follow the path of the Wanderer. The wanderer seeks

Salvation from Diablo's torment in his journey, not power, although it is revealed that his journey is actually Diablo's manipulation to free his brothers.

Repeating myself from beginning, Diablo is born evil, he was not a

Fallen angel. There was some all powerfull creature that died and its body split into the Arch of the Heavens and the Pit of hell. Then those two spawned angels and demons respectively, which all were bound to an aspect. It is even a theme in Diablo 3 that only humans are capable of choosing between good and evil, because they carry both as children of a demon and an angel.

I didn't even talk about the Balrogs, they are most notable in Middle-earth for the siege of Gondolin and the fight of one of them with Gandalf in the mines of Moria. But i think you get the idea.

I may have some factual errors, because i wrote this out of Memory, i would be happy of someone can point my errors out. So i suggest looking it up yourself or reading a book.

I should also add that the Balrog did not kill Gandalf, the contrary. Gandalf the Grey kind of "died" of exhaustion after he won the fight, but because he himself is a Maiar (lesser god), and they don't really die, he was revived as Gandalf the White, to fullfill his purpose of saving Middle-earth. The fight with the balrog was his trial if he was worthy of a promotion

Note that Balrog is also an Maiar but one which was corrupted and then enslaved by the first Dark Lord called Melkor. Melkor is the one who turned that corrupted and enslaved Maiar into demon of fire and shadow.
