Is it possible? I have some open trades that don't seem like anyone is interested in them and I would like to close them and vendor the item for stash space, but the only way to do that seems to be marking the trade as sold, which would be misleading for other traders.

Just wait for them to expire after 3 days. Full deletion coming next patch. Read the common issues sticky in the main forum.
