@Legoman-STK I've been having the same invisible character models issue since I first installed the game.

I'm currently running the game on lutris-ge-6.16-1 with Manjaro 21.1.6, and haven't encountered any other problems apart from that (except UI glitches in the Bnet app itself)

Did you ever find a way to fix it?
Nope... I fiddled a bit with the lutris launch options but nothing worked, so I'm just happy that the game runs :)
I really have no clue what could cause the problem.. especially because the main screen at the character selection works fine.

anyone figure out how to run multiple instances on linux? been at it for an hour now with no progress. I have a second account with a second copy of d2r on it.

According to guides written for windows there is some process "check for instances" but htop and ps aux not finding it.

using lutris and launching game 1 in a workspace works fine, then switching to a diff workspace i can load up the second bnet account but hitting play ends back at the lutris game page. both clients set as "exit on launch" and "allow multiple instances"

I'm on Pop OS and might have a suggestion here - have a look at Bottles. - https://usebottles.com/

You can easily create two separate bottles, install two separate instances of Bnet (Bottles has a handy list of commonly used installers, including bnet, in the gui), and then run them as you please, even at once.
You will not be using Lutris for this but it's not really needed. Both instances should then be running in their own separate containers.

Just thought I'd pop in here to say I switched to Linux full time a few months ago with M$ getting more & more invasive...

All I did to get D2R running is add the Blizzard launcher's installer to Steam as a non-steam game with Proton enabled, then run that to install it. Once installed I added the launcher itself as a non-steam game. Then I just run the Blizzard launcher through Steam with Proton & install+launch whatever game I want. Haven't had any issues yet! :)

Wine did not work for me. I had a problem with Blizzard's installer. I run D2 currently in Qemu using an old graphics card from my son using PCI pass-through. Works fine for me. I use two keyboards and mices to have a dedicated input for D2.

I wanted to find a way to easily play D2R on Linux, but without the invasion of either Steam or the BattleNet launcher.
To the best of my knowledge it is not possible to entirely avoid using the BattleNet launcher, since it is required to update the game.
But provided you have an updated game installed already, on a windows drive or partition for example - this is one way to play without Steam/BattleNet.

I ended up trying out the (Free and Open Source) Heroic Games Launcher. https://heroicgameslauncher.com/
It downloads as an appimage, so no hands-on-install is needed.
It also features optional front-end storefronts for GOG, Epic, and Amazon Prime Games, AND it runs on Linux, MacOS, and Windows.
  • 1) Clicked the "Wine Manager" tab and press the download button for "GE-Proton9-26".
  • 2) Clicked back to "Library" and hit "ADD GAME".
    Title: Diablo 2 Ressurected
App Image: Click on this line once after you fill out the title and it will auto-get the cover art.
Select Executable: locate your D2R.exe and select it.
    Click "Finish" ..
  • 3) Open the configuration for the newly added game by clicking the burger menu on the newly added game.
  • 4) In the "WINE" tab make sure "Proton- GE-Proton9-26" is selected.
  • 5) Hit the "ADVANCED" tab and use these commandline arguments:

Code: Select all

-username yourusernamehere -password yourpasswordhere -address us.actual.battle.net -windowed -skiplogovideo -skiptobnet
  • 6) Close the configuration window and press "Play now".
As far as performance goes, it (surprisingly) performs better on my current Linux system using Heroic than it did running natively in Windows.
No more micro-stuttering or random frame lags/drops, it also adheres to VSync settings now so no more screen tearing for me!
I've not attempted to run multiple clients on Linux yet, but will post an update about it if I get around to testing it out.

Potential issues:
Q: "You have not been online in the last 30 days. Please start the game while online to check for any login agreements."
A: Change the region in your commandline arguments (eu/us/kr), try connecting, quit, then change it back again, restart the game and connect.
A: Login to BattleNet either through the website or the launcher.
A: "Change the date on your computer. I've heard that works."
