Traded a 15ed Monarch for a Sur.
I now have the runes needed for Infinity but no Thresher.
Do I just settle for a Eth 4S CV? Or trade the runes for an Infinity? Or search for a 4s Eth Thresher?
Currently been playing only as a hammerdin after I heavily used a Lightning Sorc to farm runes. Don't even have an Anni yet either.

Can be used to make Runewords:
Don't go for Colossus Voulge - it's the worst overall polearm with super-high str requirement, slow speed and variable damage - at least get an Eth Cryptic Axe for 2 Ist. Thresher's dmg is all over the place and it's a fairly bad base overall with a price of Vex stapled onto it.
Or trade the 2 Ber for an average roll of a pre-made Infinity in, most likely, a Thresher, like you wrote.

Depends on the off-weapon ias on your merc. If he got iased andy Mask (35%) - threshers are the fastest choice. If it isn't iased (20%) - gpa will be the top. If you don't care about speed for your merc - on 35% ias CV and CA provide solid dps as well (but only). If you plan to resale possibly - avoid CA and CV.

Just recently there's been an infographic made by @waffels about the speeds of bases when wearing a certain percentage of IAS.
Cryptic Axe has the highest average dmg output at exactly 35% IAS ( Andariel's Visage with a 15% IAS jewel).
At pretty much all other IAS breakpoint a GPA is better. Giant Thresher and Thresher are never the kings of damage but are still the fastest, obviously, at certain breakpoints of course. At some they are on par with GPA and get demolished by damage output with the same number of attacks per second.

I go for the Giant Thresher for speed and higher minimum damage for more consistent leech. But be mindful of stat requirements compared to your mercs current stats.
Looks like trading for a Premade Infinity won in the end.
Still searching but no luck in finding a 4S E Thresher or Premade Infinity.

Is the Cryptic Axe ethereal? My first Infinity was a 320ED Cryptic Axe with -50 Light res (for my summon necro's merc). I have an ethereal Colossus Voulge I might be able to trade, if you’re interested.
Giant Thresher is ideal. Thresher next best.
Other options offer higher damage under certain conditions as described above. I'd still prioritize attack speed for leech procs. Most of the time it's more important to keep the merc alive than it is for him to do more damage. Faster attacks also proc crushing blow quicker.
GT accordingly preferred over Thresh since its tighter damage range limits low damage/leech hits.
