Description

Alma Negra is an offensive-focused shield that has the rare +% Enhanced Damage modifier in the shield-slot. In that regard it is second only to the Phoenix runeword which is very expensive but boasts a massive +350-400% Enhanced Damage modifier. Other than that, the bonus attack rating and +skills can also give an DPS edge to a paladin.

The +% Enhanced Damage modifier on the shield is applied after all the +% Enhanced Damage modifier of the weapon itself but before any skill damage calculation so, for example, a +70% Enchanced Damage mod on

Alma Negra would NOT mean a total +70% DPS boost to your final damage.

Alma Negra is mainly used by

Zeal Paladins.

The Faster Block Rate might seem useful but

Holy Shield already reduces the Paladin's Block Frames to 2 by default and one would need to hit the 86% FBR breakpoint to decrease it to 1 so it is usually disregarded. The enhanced defense mod is useful, though.

Alma Negra lacks the important All Resistances property so players might want to use

Larzuk to add 1 socket and insert a

Perfect Diamond for +19 all resistances.

Alternatively, if rich enough, an

Um rune can be used for an extra +3 all res.
