Description
I've just begun playing this week, and I bought the PC and the Switch versions of the game.
I'm having a bit of trouble, though. I can bind a spell/attack to every one of the buttons on my Switch, but I can only have two attacks bound on the PC. Is there something I'm not seeing, or is this just how that will be?
Can you not bind a skill to any keyboard keys?
I find it very odd that I can have so many skills bound on my Switch, but I can only have left-click and right-click on the PC.
I'm sure this is a foolish question, but I just wanted to ask on here to make sure.

You can bind any skill to any keyboard Key. But you gotta remember that this game was originally made 2000 and it shows still in some ways.
First of all, on PC, you have 16 possible keybinds. These are bound to different keys on your keyboard by default - with Legacy setup the defaults are F1-F8 (with the rest of the 8 possible keybinds being unbound), and with Resurrected setup the defaults are numbers 1-0 plus a few more keys. You can customize these any way you want - mine are bound to keys A, S, D, F, G, Z, X, E, R and then the rest are bound to F1, F2, etc, keys.
You can change these keybinds in options under Controls.
This is what it looks like with Resurrected defaults:
Next, you need to tie skills to these keys. You do that by clicking on either the left or right click skill, which pops up a list of skills you can use. You point at a skill you want to bind and press the corresponding keybind Key.
Say you use Resurrected defaults. Skills 1 through 10 are then bound by default to numbers 1 through 0, skills 11 and 12 are bound to keys that might vary depending on your keyboard language and skills 13+ are unbound. You bring up the skill list (by clicking either left or right click skill), point at a skill, and press the corresponding Key (a number Key from 1 through 0).
Lastly, you may want to utilize "quick cast". Not sure if it's on by default. It's under Options > Gameplay > Quick Cast Skills. If you don't have quick cast, you need to press the keybind to change the active skill on the left/right click skill and then actually left/right click to execute the skill use. With quick cast it automates this so pressing the keybind essentially automatically casts the bound skill.

Shadowheart has the right of it as far as Key binding on PC goes. But I'd like to take the opportunity to say that, as someone that played on PC back in the day and plays on switch now, the game plays better (in my opinion) with a controller.
All trades are Switch only

I'm sure a lot of people agree with you, but personally I'm hardcore old school in this case - I don't even use quick cast, I can't wrap my brain around it, it's just so deeply ingrained in me to press keybind + left/right click. I have the game on PS too but I always feel so lost whenever I try it (mostly to assist with dclone or ubers from time to time), using a controller in D2R just confuses the heck outta me. And I say that as someone who has gamed on consoles since basically a kid, still game on console regulardly, had every single PS console. But D2 is and remains a MKB game to me lol.

Yep, controller is the way to go for me.
One problem with quick cast is, that every time you are using it, the game shortly sets the skill to the right mouse key.
This can lead to screw up your standard skill set to the right mouse key.
And in case of a paladin, it stops your actual aura every time you are using a quick cast spell. This can be pretty annoying for hammerdins or FoH-paladins.
One of the biggest advantages of a controller is the option to loot into your cube directly, so you can fill your inventory with charms, making you a lot stronger.

Indeed, this is an issue with quick cast that has been around since launch. There's no similar issue on controller as far as I know, right? Which, if true, makes it all the more baffling that the problem exists in the first place with keyboard quick cast. They have the solution. Same thing with the movement keybind on PC that they tried to introduce last patch and had to roll back - movement with keys (controller analog stick) is already solved in the game...
Anyway - @Poodle448, if you need more help, just let us know

I switched all my heroes to controller for months now, and never had any problem except the rare issue of swap weapon lock. But this also happens to the mouse + keyboard configuration. Can be solved by re-entering a game.
I don't get it, too, and I am not a passioned controller player. But it's the best for D2R, period.ShadowHeart wrote: 9 months agoWhich, if true, makes it all the more baffling that the problem exists in the first place with keyboard quick cast. OP
This is incredibly useful, thank you so much! This answers every question about Key binding!
