Quick question: still have to be TZ on catacombs right? And also why P7 thanks!departure wrote: 3 months agoIf you're assuming p1 you might be right. I would also consider passive builds like dual Dream paladin though.
The best sundar charm hunter is 3x Tainted Blood Boil warlock target farming andy p7. You can pile up magic find and andy dies very quickly. You don't need CTA or much of anything. You'll get sunder charms faster from andy kills this way than killing heralds. I don't have hard data to back this up, but it has been my experience.
I don't know how well this translates to an online p1 andy farm world with no map Memory.

Old post, but: why would a Dragon or Dream paladin want an inferior Conviction from an Infinity merc when they can use their own better version?GtotheP wrote: 3 months agoI refuse to play any build without an Insight because I hate chugging pots lol. So no the Dream pally didn't have a merc with an Infinity. The merc had an Insight. And actually Dragon was faster than Dream surprisingly, even though he can't Teleport. His Charge skill gets him around fast enough and his aura kill speed is 2x that of the Dream pally.
If the same item auras from merc and player can both be active (not stack, but both hit separately) I would think running Dragon body+dual HOJ+Flickering Flame on an act 5 merc along with HOJ+dual Dragon would be the best setup. If they can't, switch paladin to Crescent Moon+dual Dream+Enigma. On p1 everything except bosses/heralds should explode pretty much instantly.
There is no better option for killing heralds in the entire game than the paladin's convert ability. Only need one point.
Nothing you can do with any other class comes even close. You convert the heralds entire pack of minions, if that plus your aura is not enough to kill it... well you are literally able to isolate the Herald in a matter of seconds. The minions revert back to enemies with 1hp and die almost instantly.
Funniest thing is the number of people who have absolutely no idea about the 1hp reversion mechanic, its not a bug. The fact its not even in your list when its a clear #1 just proves that point. Nothing compares. Zeal + fanat + 2dragons/ dreams and a good weapon kills heralds faster than anything else in the game by orders of magnitude. Its also probably the single safest build to do it with, certainly for melee characters, considering the insane utility that you get out of Conversion.

Because your level 27+ Fanaticism is the far better choice as your paladin's main aura. Conviction on the merc and make your Hand of Justice in a Scourge... played right the 2x Dragon, Hand of Justice zealer is one of the highest dps chars in the game. Its also fun af. And personally, I cant stand flickering fart. I just dont like anything about it. Usually rock a high end Crown of Ages with that build.Spider-Dan wrote: 10 hours agoOld post, but: why would a Dragon or Dream paladin want an inferior Conviction from an Infinity merc when they can use their own better version?GtotheP wrote: 3 months agoI refuse to play any build without an Insight because I hate chugging pots lol. Is merc Infinity + paladin Fanaticism better than merc Faith + paladin Conviction? I would expect that the majority of Dragondin or Tesladin damage (given the required gear) is coming from elemental added effects instead of physical. If that's true, it seems like even on immunes the extra -17 res would be more valuable than the extra ~5 IAS (if that even hits a breakpoint) and +phys damage, and on non-immunes it would be a blowout. But I've never tried either of these setups so it's all speculation.Nachoman wrote: 10 hours agoBecause your level 27+ Fanaticism is the far better choice as your paladin's main aura. The NoDrop chance mechanic is reduced at P3 / P5 / P7. There is no loot benefit @ P8, only XP and difficulty increases.ohptsh wrote: 13 hours agoQuick question: still have to be TZ on catacombs right? And also why P7 thanks!
TZ Andy has better drop odds IIRC.
I am surely not an expert on Herald hunting or do have a ton of experience. But since now I never encountered a T5 Herald in a P1 game that was not melted in seconds by my Mosaic Sin. The minions mostly die with the first few kicks and then a few times later the Herald is down. I never died to a Herald with my Sin. When I get back from my break from D2 I probably check out P3.Nachoman wrote: 10 hours agoThere is no better option for killing heralds in the entire game than the paladin's convert ability. After a 20 year break from D2 I started playing D2R in 2024 with my sons (9 and 10 years old)

ehhm after trying it a bit, I think Poison Nova necro is a terrible Herald/boss killer. Nova itself doesn't deal enough dmg, merc with crshing blow dies easily, popping corpses also isn't fast enough for the Herald, especially if he has fire immunity for example. I'd still stick to the strafezon, or maybe Lightning Strike zon, or maybe Lightning Fury zon, or maybe warlock. haven't tried Mosaic yet
Yep. You can't do much about this except building up a lot of patience or playing in a team.ganseng wrote: 2 hours agoehhm after trying it a bit, I think Poison Nova necro is a terrible Herald/boss killer.
Again: Give that Lightning Ironwolf a try. And put points into Bone Prison and synergies. This is how I play my Nec and he is doing much better in fighting Heralds than any other Poisonmancer build I've tried. Ironwolf cuts time to kill the whole mob by half, and he will not die. Just keep them monsters prisoned and you and your merc are on the safe side. Use Clay Golem versus Heralds and have at least one row of mana potions in your belt, you will need them.
