Description

I've seen this brought up a few times in various threads, and it seems people are either hard yes, or hard no. Knowing what your PvP opponent is wearing is a fair argument to make against adding the feature. I've seen commentary fearing transmog altering stats/properties of items, but every game I've ever played with this feature that has never been the case. It is purely cosmetic.

If Diablo took a page out of WoW Forever's new playbook, I think it could satisfy everyone.

That strategy is making it optional with a toggle. Meaning if you want no part of transmog, then you don't have to use it and you will only see the items everyone has equipped.

Those of us who don't want to see that Green Leather Sack on our head could finally change it. There are many cool looking items you simply never see due to crap stats.

The Chronicle is an easy segue to transmog. If it's in your chronicle, then you have it available for transmog.

Further details in regards to WoW implementation here: https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/article ... anel-recap

I don't know if this has been pitched before, or if there is some inherent limitation in the game that would prevent it...but I think it would be a great creature comfort addition to D2R.

Yes recolouring would be so great! A Horadric Cube recipe with the right combination of Perfect Gems, or even jewels or essences to get your desired colour, and perhaps a quite rare rune so it doesn't get to easy, would make a lot of people very happy I think.

In a second step transmog should also be implemented someday, somehow. Perhaps with Anya and her personalizing reward. One should have the skin item in physical form so she knows how it should look like, and something rare again, so it doesn't get too easy either.
It would be a pity if all these beautiful skins, which the developers of resurrected created wouldn't be used more.

Yeah, Shako is iconic but also ugly as hell. Recoloring could be nice

If the Shako was just the actual color it was on the item it would be great IMO. I don't know why it's lightened up so much when you wear it.

All trades are negotiable within reason :)

The hobos in my city all wear The Face of Horror.
At least that is
what it looks like when I wander drunk through the city at night.

you know what's funny? a real Shako would look even more ridiculous. so, a green plastic bag might be a blessing.

Diablo 2 is not a modern game and I don’t want transmog. I like being able to look at people and tell what they are using. However, inspect items would be amazing.

My post explains that if implemented in this fashion, you could disable the feature for yourself.

I don't know how much more of a win/win this could be since it would satisfy both perspectives.

That's a reasonable middle ground.

If you've ever played D2R Reimagined, they have added this feature. It didn't show on the character screen, but I haven't played in quite a while so they may have fixed this.

You can 'dye' items with the color palette that gems apply when socketed into items.

I’d really like a dye feature - all plain rune word items that are all the same color, some color would spice things up - but I’ve always felt that items should look the way they are meant to. If you’re wearing heavy armor it should look like you’re wearing heavy armor, if you’re wearing plain leather it should look like it. I find transmog to be a dumb idea, on a conceptual level, (no offense to those who like the idea though) as it completely removes the purpose of item appearance variety and uniqueness when you can just look whatever way you want no matter what you’re wearing. That being said, I totally wouldn’t mind a transmog feature if I could turn it off - as long as I could still dye my items (assuming they add both features). Making a single toggle to enable/disable both transmog and dyes would make me a slight bit upset, I think 😂

Also, I really think they should make gloves and boots affect your appearance as well, not just body armor and helmet. But that’s a lot more work, probably.

i mean, you end up everyone wearing the same stuff this way, like every sorc and their grandmother wielding a Monarch. the most flexibility comes from runewords, and even then you usually have 3-4 choices (which is better than being stuck with the most generic shield of all time lol)

I like it better when they keep the transmog in the same class of items - like heavy armor with heavy armor, but, it doesnt really matter too much as I only see people when i am trading. so i dont mind either way. And one other point is: why should i try to control how other people have fun with their characters? live and let live.

That's fair, when it comes to shields. They could actually reduce the strength requirement of the other 4os shield bases (or increase max sockets on some) to add more viable options for Spirit/Phoenix. But there is more variety for armors and helmets - not everyone wears the same armor or helmet. Everyone likes to joke about Harlequin Crest, and it's a very good general purpose Helm for sure, but it's not actually BiS for anywhere close to as many builds as Spirit Monarch is.

@ShadowHeart I'd argue item variety is limited/removed as it things are because essentially everyone uses the same BiS items. Every time I login it's a guarantee to see at least a couple avatars with green shoppings bags on their head, holding a Monarch and probably a Flail or Crystal Sword.

Transmog to same class of item is how it is done in WoW. It's usually easy to spot holy/healing paladins as many BiS healing items are cloth, but even with transmog their selection is limited to this class of armor.

For D3 it is also like this for weapons. You can't turn a sword into an Axe. But I think it's a FFA for most armor slot items; except maybe class specific. Been a while since I played a season of D3.

I would welcome the dye feature also.

Agree to disagree. I haven't used a Harlequin Crest in the past 3-4 seasons (there has been better options for my chosen builds, and actually it might be more than 3-4 seasons, can't even remember when I last used it on a main char on ladder). I have used different armor bases in every season the past several seasons, and different helm bases in each of the several past ladder season as well - not just for variety's sake, it was just a natural consequence of picking a base that looks good for the class I'm playing (if I'm using a rune word), and just having different parameters to consider for what is BiS for my build. I like having to make that choice when I'm making a rune word. Transmog would completely eliminate the purpose of having to make said choice. But again, I would just not use the feature if it was added, so it doesn't really affect me so much. (and I'd turn if off if it was possible)

Spirit Monarch I agree on though, as I noted in my reply to Valnerios. If not transmog, the game could use some more viable alternative bases.

EDIT: And while we're at it, I think they should increase max sockets on some elite helms too, so there's more rune word options on that side too - some helm bases are quite ugly, but I see no reason why Shako and Giant Conch can't have max 3 sockets. I would pick either over the existing 3 socket options in some cases :)
