I've seen this brought up a few times in various threads, and it seems people are either hard yes, or hard no. Knowing what your PvP opponent is wearing is a fair argument to make against adding the feature. I've seen commentary fearing transmog altering stats/properties of items, but every game I've ever played with this feature that has never been the case. It is purely cosmetic.
If Diablo took a page out of WoW Forever's new playbook, I think it could satisfy everyone.
That strategy is making it optional with a toggle. Meaning if you want no part of transmog, then you don't have to use it and you will only see the items everyone has equipped.
Those of us who don't want to see that Green Leather Sack on our head could finally change it. There are many cool looking items you simply never see due to crap stats.
The Chronicle is an easy segue to transmog. If it's in your chronicle, then you have it available for transmog.

I don't know if this has been pitched before, or if there is some inherent limitation in the game that would prevent it...but I think it would be a great creature comfort addition to D2R.

Yes recolouring would be so great! A Horadric Cube recipe with the right combination of Perfect Gems, or even jewels or essences to get your desired colour, and perhaps a quite rare rune so it doesn't get to easy, would make a lot of people very happy I think.
In a second step transmog should also be implemented someday, somehow. Perhaps with Anya and her personalizing reward. One should have the skin item in physical form so she knows how it should look like, and something rare again, so it doesn't get too easy either.
It would be a pity if all these beautiful skins, which the developers of resurrected created wouldn't be used more.

Yeah, Shako is iconic but also ugly as hell. Recoloring could be nice
If the Shako was just the actual color it was on the item it would be great IMO. I don't know why it's lightened up so much when you wear it.
