Blizzcon 2026 Day 1 - Discussion

There have been a tonne of rumours floating around over the last month about a potential Diablo 2 update - some have been discredited (Chinese streamer), some have been theorised (Act VI, new expansion, new class etc.), and there are some promising bite size facts supporting (vendor build updated recently). So we may well hear something today.

I'm really excited to be honest. This is the first Blizzcon in years - even if they don't do anything/anything big for D2, it's highly anticipated that WoW is getting something huge - potentially Classic+ or something bigger. Crossing my fingers for a D2 update.

I have also heard that D1 Resurrected may be on the cards - they're playing Tristram music right now before the opening ceremony.

Highlights so far:

• New animated Diablo series coming to Netflix.
• Starcraft open-world FPS/shooter announced! Coming 2030.
• New HOTS hero/update. First one in a while.
• New Overwatch hero and animated series.
• Diablo 4 new season announced: Season of Hell's Legacy. The Stone of Jordan being brought into D4, something about Deckard Cain and being able to fight the Prime Evils - including Diablo himself. Diablo 4 Age of Hatred collection coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Diablo 4 getting the Amazon class.
• Some kind of Diablo Immortal comic collab...
• Diablo 5 announced - it's coming out in 2029.
• Sadly doesn't look like anything coming for Diablo 2 The Diablo franchise segment of the Opening Ceremony ended after the D5 announcement with nothing mentioned. Perhaps we'll hear more in the developer update later.
• World of Warcrat Midnight: Eclipse coming. Retail WoW sooo not particularly excited about this. Showed a cinematic for the next expansion: The Last Titan, which is coming out in 2027.
• Warcraft 3: Forsaken Kingdom DLC coming to Warcraft 3: Reforged - it's a new campaign involving Sylvanas. Covers the fall of Lordaeron etc.
• World of Warcraft: Classic Plus announced!!! It's called World of Warcraft: Forever. It launches in 7 weeks from now! Comes out on November 4th 2026. Beta on Thursday, playable demo at Blizzcon.

D1 has by far the best atmosphere of all Diablo games - dark, bloody and claustrophobic. I would love a D1 remake, especially if we got real 3D graphics. I want to look the Butcher in the eyes. "Fresh meat!"

Yes. D1 is still outstanding in sound design and style.

Aaaand that was it from the opening ceremony for the Diablo franchise. I don't think we're getting anything for D2 There's still 30 minutes left on the opening ceremony, and the developer update to come - so hope is not dead!

I'm sure d5 was the big diablo news they were talking about. Not leaving me much hope for any big d2 news...

WoW Classic Plus announced! It's called World of Warcraft: Forever. It launches in 7 weeks from now! Comes out on November 4th 2026. Beta on Thursday. It 'never ends' - so I'm guessing it's a permanent vanilla realm that is going to get net new updates. 'It's the journey that counts, not the destination' - very very nicely put by the presenter. 'Opportunity to get back to the heart of MMOs and what makes them so special' - also well said.
Dalaran on the Ground it looks like - pre-Molten Core, max level cap of 60 that will not change. New (and perhaps existing?) 10 and 20 man raids. New zones, new dungeons, new items etc.
