Can be used to make Runewords:
Hi all,
If you Zod an item with native skill charges eg Teleport, does the Zod stop you from being able to repair (recharge) the item at an NPC blacksmith?
Just a hypothetical… and just curious.
TIA.

Flexible but mostly trade is UTC+1 evenings. Note timezone differences: several hours ahead of US / behind Asia. Prompt but don't expect instant. This ain't Traderie.

Zod replaces an item's durability with the Ages affix (Indestructible) and increases an item's level requirement to 69. It does nothing else.
That's correct but also misleading. He might get the feeling that you can recharge items with a Zod in it but these will all be ethereal and you cannot repair and recharge items when they are ethereal. The Zod is neither helping nor making it worth, correct. If the item is not Eth, you would be insane to put a Zod in it.
OP never said it was ethereal, which is why i didn't get into that important fact regarding ethereal items.mikelessar wrote: 5 hours agoThat's correct but also misleading. OP
Chaps. Sorry; what have I started?!
I was not thinking of the Runeword scenario. I was thinking simply of placing a Zod into an item with a socket, where that item already had an attribute with charges, such as Teleport. So for example, say Spellsteel, that low level non ethereal Axe. If you (for reasons beyond comprehension) decided to socket and Zod it, would that the prevent you from recharging the item at an NPC blacksmith?
The query arose as I was pondering the fact that Zod makes things indestructible which means those items don’t ever need to be repaired as the durability will cease to matter. But I then wondered whether the Zod would prevent you from taking it to a blacksmith for repair if you wanted to repair the charges on that item, or would the hammer item be greyed out?
I was already aware than Zod in an Ethereal item with charges means that you can’t repair those charges, but I understood that is due to the item being ethereal.
I then wondered whether having a Zod in a non- Eth item with charges might prevent you from getting it repaired altogether.. would you still be able to activate the repair item button and apply it to a non- Eth with charges, and which had a Zod in it.
A really niche and unlikely to occur scenario I guess, but it’s the kind of D2 question that can keep one awake at night!
I think the first poster answered the question succinctly. Zod affects durability only. No effect on charges so you can still repair those.
Ty for your thoughts on this one though!!

But why do you think about putting a Zod in a non-ethereal item?
This has probably never been done (intentionally).

You have never had a thought about how something works, even if you never wanted to actually try it?mikelessar wrote: 2 hours agoBut why do you think about putting a Zod in a non-ethereal item?

I'm in CET (Central European Time)
My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.
My profile says Softcore, but I play both Softcore and Hardcore.
My Holy Grail Tracker is for Offline Hardcore.

I did and do, generally, but not in this case. Since you can recharge Oath which is "indestructable".ShadowHeart wrote: 2 hours agoYou have never had a thought about how something works, even if you never wanted to actually try it?mikelessar wrote: 2 hours agoBut why do you think about putting a Zod in a non-ethereal item?

I wasn’t familiar with Oath and it’s properties but having looked at it, it achieves the Indestructible property as an effect of the RuneWord rather than gaining this effect as an inherent property of one of the component runes. A distinction without a difference? Maybe. But..mikelessar wrote: 1 hour agoI did and do, generally, but not in this case. This would then make me wonder whether for recharging purposes, if it works the same as Zod in an item… I guess it does. But you begin to see the rabbit hole one can start going deeper into… or possibly, it is just me

I tend to agree with you, at least not by those who are in the know.mikelessar wrote: 2 hours agoBut why do you think about putting a Zod in a non-ethereal item?

But i suppose it could be used for its fundamental power of making things indestructible.
If you were playing non- meta, and if you had a decent item that you had to repair after every battle, perhaps something that suffers from durability issues, say you’re an Impaler-Zon (?) who has a rare Matriarchal Spear with 14 durability.. or a smiter with a prized shield that comes close to breaking after every tough fight…
and you had extra Zods and wanted to devote a socket to that end, you might in theory do so…

If you don't have enough Gold for repairs and recharges, check out these super cheap recipes:
Recipe: Fully Repaired and Recharged Weapon
Recipe: Fully Repaired and Recharged Armor
Recipe: Fully repaired weapon
Recipe: Fully Repaired Armor
A Zod will remove the repair cost but not the recharge cost. So these recipes are much better.

Yes, that might help - but would depend on why the player is repair-averse in the first place. If it is costing them too much Gold, the recipes might be an easier fix (assuming they encounter those runes quite often).mikelessar wrote: 1 hour agoCheck out these super cheap recipes:

But if the player wanted QoL and did not want the ‘hassle’ of going through the repair Ritual.. then this might just be replacing one repair Ritual with another…

@AardvarksAdvance I didn't use this method before, but I guess you can make an offline weapon/character in Maxroll and export it and then play with that in an offline mode and see what happens.
My guess is that the weapon become indestructible but rechargeable, unless it's ethereal.
And also, you have to much free time that you think of that things
