Just like to bring this to an mods attention

I don’t know which member you’re referring to specifically, but if anyone is sending you spam in private you should use the report function - every post, private message and chat message has a report button for bringing it to the attention of the moderators. It looks like a flag.

You can also dm one of us directly but it’s better to use the report function because then it ends up in our report log.

We've always had tons of bot sign-ups. And so far they've always got stuck in post-approval limbo because they can't post on the forum or message anyone until a moderator has approved one of their forum posts. Before Teebling enabled that feature we had waves of spam on the forum, if you remember.

But like I said, if you see suspicious activity (forums posts, trade listings, private messages, chats, etc) that seem to be spam or something, then always report it to us.

I don't delete ban accounts on suspicion of being bots, I delete ban accounts based on what they do. And so far they have done nothing besides registering, as far as I know.

EDIT: moderators can't actually delete accounts, only ban them, so I adjusted the wording accordingly

Sometimes you mods are overly cautious.

If there is a system to prevent bots from posting, why should moderators waste their time scrutinizing the smallest actions of new members?
Keep in mind Moderator on a forum isn't a job. It’s volunteering.

Sometimes you mods are overly cautious.

Keep in mind that us mods are all volunteers who don't and can't do nothing but moderate 24/7. As such, moderating based on actions and real need is a viable approach. Actively monitoring every single aspect of this site however and taking care of every single thing based on pure suspicion before anyone is actually affected by it, not so much. We can't sit here and just watch the member list all day, merely to remove any new account that didn't do anything before anyone randomly opens the list and sees it.

Plus full, proper account deletion isn't a moderator thing anyways. That's admin territory. So if anything, that'd be something where a ruleset would be established and then Teebling can run that every so often to clean up the presumed spam accounts (if he wants to and doesn't already do that, not sure actually).

That said, most (if not all) of them will eventually try to drop their spam here at which point us mods get a 'first post' note, identify the spam for what it is and then they get taken care of before anyone is in any way affected by them (other than us mods getting a good chuckle out of the absurdity of some of those spam posts). That does include a delay from the time of their registration depending on how long they wait to try to post, yes, but they're not hurting anyone in that time anyways. And this way, we can react within reasonable bounds of volunteer involvement, rather than trying to preemptively take care of every single thing that may or may not ever affect anyone via some unrealistic 24/7 monitoring.
