It appears if you receive so much damage that it burns through your entire mana pool (i.e. mana hits 0), then ES will switch off until you recast it.

it's beyond doubt that the Energy Shield is bugged on renewal. it's the only spell i cast in town currently, equip the gear, press f5, right click. as clumsy as i am, can't really mess it up. and 1-2 minutes later it turns off. it just doesn't renew
I know its been a while since your post, but do you remember if you had used a skill shrine at any point in your run? I did some googling and it appears there are other reports of ES time not resetting when recasting. It also appears this consistently happens when recasting ES with a lower skill level i.e. you get a skill shrine, cast lvl 42 ES, skill shrine runs out, you recast ES at lvl 40 but timer does not reset.justinman114 wrote: 3 hours agoI have made sure it has nothing to do with casting too quickly. Battle Command can do that as well. i'm pretty sure it prematurely switches off whether i recast with or without Battle Command effect (even if slvl at recast is higher than initially )
I was wondering this too, but for that to be the case, I would have still had to go back to the stash and grab my Memory before buffing again with said skill shrine (which lasts a very short time because of Cure). I don't think this was the case. My initial cast is also not buffed by BC. I haven't done any long ES sorc runs in a while so I'm not sure if it's still an issue, but more recent posts suggest it is.
EDIT: It's POSSIBLE that BC is the issue, but it would have been a series of events to cause it similar to:
New game -> Memory swap, cast ES -> go kill stuff for a while -> come back to town buffed by Battle Command and swap to Memory to buff ES again -> go kill more stuff -> come back to town NOT buffed by Battle Command and swap to Memory to buff ES (and now I'm one level lower)
