There are multiple sources claiming this was fixed in patch 2.6 (season 3). TZs were introduced in patch 2.5 (season 2), so it was only a problem for one season. Since 2.6 you shouldn't need to worry about how you go about it when you complete act 1. But it's not like I have personally done 10,000 runs to verify it

(it wasn't mentioned in the official patch notes though, just something that the community discovered on their own after patch 2.6 dropped)
Aha, thanks for informing! I had totally missed that. Then @Trang Oul 's ritual really fits the thread's concept (rituals with no effects beyond placebo).

There is actually a deeper truth in this, barbs have 30 base strength while most (all?) classes have less. Meaning that a lvl1 barb mule can equip those perfect socketed

There was even a time when I dressed my mules. Some characters can look really cool with gemmed crap items.

Lvl 3-5 is usually sufficient for the dress show.

I watched this streamer once (not me!) who did this small Ritual of hovering a few small circles with his mouse cursor above every unidentified unique before identifying it - for good fortune and a good roll! I rush all my mules to Act 5 for a free socket quest. I'll also give them a few levels and the cube for extra space.
