The simple, disappointing, boring answer is... time. I started playing online 2 years ago, but before I hit 1 year I already had enough runes to do whatever I wanted: multiple Enigma, Faith, Breath of the Dying, etc.
I don't even trade THAT much, plus don't trade for items (just consumables: gems, keys, runes). And I play super casual and definitely don't optimize my tasks, I just do whatever I feel like doing at any time.
Just keep playing and you'll naturally get there. Sell everything you don't use.

This 1000%. If you don't have a concrete plan for a certain item, sell it. You can always buy it again if you end up needing it.
