I never tried Miasma but because of the 2h-shield-problem I am wondering if the Miasma skills do apply Hex: Bane to lower the enemy defense?

I never tried Miasma but because of the 2h-shield-problem I am wondering if the Miasma skills do apply Hex: Bane to lower the enemy defense?
The Miasma skills are spells. You are not hitting the monsters with a weapon. Hexes should not work. Have never tried but I'm fairly certain.

With ES you throw your weapon and hit the monsters "with your weapon"
