I made my first online character 6 days ago on Ladder non-DLC and it was a lot of fun playing Diablo 2 for the first time in 20-something years. I finished Normal difficulty yesterday, but today I van't find any more players on Nightmare. I guess everyone moved to the DLC because of the discount. Feels empty, so I guess I have to move to the DLC as well as I want to continue to play with people.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Yeah, its like the first season on the (back then) new d2r, when non-ladder became empty. You will see much more when the first dlc-ladder ends in less than one month (estimated), but only on dlc. The non-dlc part really feels empty now.

3 warlocks (fire miasma ES)
1 Death (fire)
found Horazon's Splendor but no respecs left and i can't equip it

Eh it's been alright. I tried to enjoy it without
Teleport
but broke down and made a sorceress. I do think there's something to the 'fresh start' that's really special.

I gave HC another shot, largely because of the Warlock's tankiness. I found it particularly amusing to be able to blast enemies right through walls. I have no idea what Blizzard was thinking there, but it helps immensely in HC. I was pretty pissed off that Sunder Charms had been removed. But once I realized that the Warlock is a class for which immunities simply don't exist, my frustration was cut in half.

I played D1 on PSX (load times where crazy) and D2 back in the day when they add Assassin and Druid, tons of hours with friends, that was like in the pleistocene, I got D2R ROTW gifted a month ago and got a blast discovering all the new stuff, so it was pretty fun for me, not a single Griffon was found yet after thousand pindle runs, but got my Java to lvl 95, so pretty much fun hunting and getting back onto the game, hoping to catch the S14 and have some fun too.

;)

I played less than 1 month as warlock, and stopped with my lvl 90++ warlock cause it was ridiculously easy (i play hardcore)

Started a warlock, got it in the 90s and spec'd it Apoc > Chains >
Abyss
> ES >
Blood Boil
using respecs. Was fun, but ES definitely skewed the rest of the game in a weird way.

Have a Blizz sorc, WW Horker barb, and Ice Maiden zon in the 90s too. They all have pretty decent gear, be it sets, runewords, or gg rares, but no Enigma / Infinity / BOTD / Death level stuff.

Never got any runes above
Lo
, really.

I got started a month or so late, and trade dies down on this site pretty quickly near the end of the ladder. I've got some really solid stuff in my stash, some posted for trade even, but there's no demand. Now's about the time I sit back and wait for the next ladder, I suppose.

Early season was so crazy. It was so hard to find and stay in a good
Baal
run. There was a lot of supply but still way more demand for
Baal
runs. Early on, it was the norm for me to be the only non-warlock in the game.

LoD (pre RotW) is basically dead, esp. in EU, for both ladder and non-ladder.
Doesn't concern me much since I switched to SSF recently but I stopped trading. Most of the trade interactions were "oh sorry, I thought this was RotW..."

Looking for a cheap Cure on D2R HCNL? I got some!

I also have 100+ crafted amulets (from cheap to gg) on D2R SCNL. Let me know what you are looking for. šŸ™‚

Warlock is OP, but this new class brought us back after not playing much since last summer. We have leveled 4 different WL builds (we will probably take another break after the end of this season, though)

I was hosting
Baal
waves runs. Always wondering how people manage to join in so fast.
I am slow player and joining other players games is always pain for me. It is either full already or waves are all dead, LOL.
I was incrementing numbers, but happened many times when I create game and 1-2 people are already staying in Hartogath waiting.

I made a
Blood Boil
Warlock before ladder started, farming with him felt exactly like farming with a summoner necro. It felt off though, as if it was an unearned level of effectiveness.

So I started ladder in LoD, farmed
Mephisto
, kept a character in game to catch Dclone in Asia (got 3 20/20 annis), ran Ubers briefly (you could reliably trade unid torches for keysets in LoD), and then came to RotW for Colossal Ancients.

I got 3
Defender's Bile
in a row, and I was looking for a fire one to put on my enchantress. That felt really bad because of
Baal
statue mechanics. I caught those TZs during daytime and got 0 statues for 3 days in a row. And I turned off TZ notifications after that. I even learned to skip
Baal
waves to make it fast, dammit!

I was very upset with TZs in RotW given that Heralds were unreasonably deadly "bullet sponges" and they dropped nothing of value. In LoD it was always exciting to get the old Sunders even though they were not as powerful.

On the other hand, I made a multishot zon, bought Jeweler's
Full Plate Mail
of the Whale from
Charsi
and put 7 40% ED jewels on her. It was really nice to upgrade her incrementally and witness how much better she becomes. She did not like the jewels I suppose, so next week she found me 2
Jah
runes, hehe.

I tried
Echoing Strike
of course. It felt like loading a save with a decked out Javazon in single player and skipping all the struggle.

I really loved one thing though - binding demons. That felt very much like a part of Diablo game, even if it was overpowered. I wish
Conversion
was 10% of that!

So, I am happy overall and it was a nice trip.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I went ahead and bought the DLC. After playing for a while I am convinced I should have bought it on release date. The RotW ladder is full of players, while in the standard DLC I was seeing four or five people tops in Normal difficulty and no one in Nightmare.

Of course the DLC has much more to offer. Initially I was against stacking gems and runes, but now I see how comfortable the gameplay is with it (moving them with Ctrl+Click without needing to select the stash tabs).
