Description

I've only seen examples with immune monsters, but as I understand it, either when breaking an immunity with
Conviction
or a charm, the penalty applied to a monster is reduced to 1/5th.

For example, you have a sunder charm. A monster is set to 95%.

You can apply -20% lightning, but because they monster has a sunder tag, you only apply -4%. So they end up with 91% lightning res.

Q1: Do non immunes also become "sundered" or carry the sunder tag automatically? The wording at max roll is "apply the keyword sunder to monsters around you".

Q2: If Q1 is true, does this mean sundered non immune monsters also receive the 1/5th penalty?

Q3: With regards to
Conviction
being level 12 with from Infinity, once you hit the lvl (91 I think) where monsters can have a lvl 12
Conviction
themselves, does that simply negate
Conviction
for both parties or does that make theirs override yours completely?

The 1/5 penalty only applied to skills or items with these skills (e.g.
Lower Resist
,
Conviction
or
Cold Mastery
), it has nothing to do with what you called a "sundered" status. All the -resist attributes from items are 100% efficiency.

Gotcha, but the main point of that question is what happens to all the other enemies that weren't immune to begin with?

Do they become "sundered" as well, and does
Conviction
/lower res/
Cold Mastery
become penalized when applied to them?

No, they are not affected by sundered charms and
Conviction
/lower res/
Cold Mastery
also penalized when applied to them.

No clue what "keyword sunder" is supposed to be but no, non-immunes are not subject to a 1/5th penalty, regardless of whether or not you have a sunder in your inventory.

All a sunder does is take an immune mob and drop its resistance to 95 for that sunder's element.

The 1/5th penalty has nothing to do with the sunder charm or its effect but is simply applied for any mob that starts out immune and is not applied to mobs that aren't inherently immune. The only thing a sunder does in that regard (for immune mobs) is change whether the penalized 1/5th reduction is applied to the monster's base res (no sunder) or starts counting down from 95% instead (sunder). Non-immunes..no difference and no penalty.

For non-sundered monsters all minus to enemy res applies 100%, no matter if it comes from skills like
Conviction
(exception: If
Conviction
has broken an immunity) or from items like
Griffon's Eye
.

Example:
A cow (
Hell Bovine
) has 50% fire res on hell difficulty. You have
Conviction
that lowers the cow's fire res by -85% and you also have a good Flickering Flame that applies -15%. The cow is now at -50% fire res. Your fire damage does 3 times as much damage as without any minus enemy fire res.

A question about uber ancients.. are they immune to
Conviction
? it seemed that there was no green marking under them, and it took longer than expected to kill the bastards, even had to port back to town for extra potions!

OP
Thanks, that's what I was double checking.
